Leaders' Debate Round 3 RTÉ

Wahey!

What did your auld lad do for the O6?

They lost it when they introduced water charges against their core support, along with extra college fees which they lied about.

Their hierachy fucked them over good and proper, in fairness their grassroots are decent people, but that’s politics.

Sang a few rebel songs, what did yours do?

He brought his kids up in it and put food on the table.

Bressie wahey

I can’t wait to see ff and fg in government together.

Same as my grandparents did in West Limerick, my Grandmother in particular used often talk about the black and tans, she was 89 when she died in the late 90’s. West Limerick Drom/broadford native. Very pro RA on the mothers side.

The father came from limerick city, and his father excelled at club Rugby for Shannon and actually Dolphin during WW2 in Cork which is an odd one.

It’s different down here mate. Both sides were FF voters in the old days as they looked after the working families traditionally in the Republic before Sinn Fein were even on the news/ and or were established.

I’m not taking from Gerry’s achievements saying that, but that’s my thinking mate.

What has Gerry Adams got to do with the so called “Peace Process” ?

If it wasn’t for Adam’s we would never have had peace in the North mate.

What has Noel Gallagher got to do with Oasis?

The difference is you’re commentating about things you have no personal experience of, if you lived in the O6 at that time or if you lived close to the border then you might have had a different understanding. I generally think people should be conservative in commentating and moralising on situations they know very little about.

FG and FF in government this will be gas.

No doubt i absolutely would, but I still don’t think Gerry is going to lead SF to the next level as Taoiseach in the 26 either.

Just like me, a lot of people have been fortunate enough not to grow up through the war and are conscious free of the baggage mate.

I’ve always said Gerry has without a doubt been the best politican of his generation across the island of Ireland, but I’m not a fan of his policies given my current circumstances.

Having being brought up in a statelet whose motive was to oppress a minority, I would rather not think about my personal circumstances but rather a society that doesn’t look to keep certain people down for the benefit of others. I’m very much for an open playing field and FF/FG/Lab are anti-fairness.

Gerry Adams is a truly inspiring figure and we’re lucky to live at the same time as this great Irishman.

I’m proud that I come from the same country as him.

Now that Nelson Mandela has departed, I can’t, off hand, think of another political figure so inspiring as him anywhere in the world. Perhaps Evo Morales of Bolivia or Aung San Suu Kyi of Burma could be mentioned in the same breath, who have fought tirelessly for their people and particularly for the downtrodden.

We should treasure and cherish Gerry Adams while he’s still active in political life in this country.

Let’s make him Taoiseach.

I see where your coming from with that mate, but what about lads that I grew up with that had the same opportunities who don’t want to contribute and this is without an imperialist ruler.

You also have to look after yourself and your family and have an incentive to get up in the morning go to work and better yourself and your family. Too many people I grew up with are doing the opposite after the same education and that shouldn’t be rewarded either. SF’s policies are limited from that point of view imo, and as a result I’ll be giving Maurice a 3rd preference behind FF and the social democrats.

Your voting reasoning makes absolutely no sense.

Everyone should start off on an equal footing, some people have the capabilities to be high achievers in life and some have the motivation, some will achieve and some won’t but the chance should be there - it’s not. The free state since its inception has been rotten.

That’s because Willie is on his own in Limerick City

Ah no, the social democrats seem decent enough and Maurice is a family friend so there you go.
