Leading Kerry GGA player caught for Drug Dealing

Kerry GAA anger over drugs case.
The recent jailing of a Kerry Senior Hurler for drug dealing attracted some media attention recently.Kerry hurler Sean Dowling was jailed last week for drug dealing. According to todays Kerrys Eye, Kerry County Board Chairman Patrick O’Sullivan is furious that he was not made aware that the Senior Hurling Manager was about to give a character reference for Mr Dowling. It is also reported that Kerry GAA bosses were outraged at “failing procedures” that allowed an alleged drug dealer to continue to train and play with the Hurlers.Mr O Sullivan said that if he had known about the case he “under no circumstances” would have allowed the alleged drug dealer near a GAA pitch.

Note: Some of the alleged drug dealing went on where young kids were training. My view is he should of been banned and character references in criminal trials should be stopped. Does a GAA figure giving a character reference in a criminal trial reflect badly on the GAA?

GAA bosses in Kerry are furious over a collapse in their procedures that allowed an alleged drug dealer continue to train and play with the senior Kerry hurling team.
County Board Chairman Patrick O’Sullivan said this week that the first he knew of the case, in which a member of the senior hurling squad was charged and ultimately convicted of drug dealing, was last Wednesday night - over a year after the player was first caught by gardai, and hours after he was jailed for two years.
The top GAA officer in Kerry said that procedures regarding a player suspected of drug dealing had totally failed, and the communication breakdown reflects poorly on the GAA in Kerry.

Jesus, after all that build up, this is it?

Ill smash you

You wouldn’t smash shit ffs. Go back to attention seeking, you’re good at that.

Regards to the family mate, hope they’re all well.

Would the GAA player caught with 500k worth of cannabis in Dublin yesterday not have been a better story?

Yes, i believe it would be.

First time I heard of a Kerry hurler being a leading GAA player.

It wasn’t too long ago that Dublin hurling was on a par with Kerry hurling so less of the smart comments. Unfortunately for Kerry hurling they don’t have Croke Park pumping in millions of special funding.

I don’t believe Kerry have ever been on a par with Dublin. And is it not Dublin Co. board rather than croke park pumping in the millions…

I dont think we were ever that bad at hurling.

No, it comes from central council. The Dublin county board applied to them to fund a hurling development project and they receive an extra funding for this. I’m not sure of the exact figures, but I think it could be 1.5m over 5 years.

where did the money from huge sponsorship deals with Arnotts and particularly Vodafone go?..

Of course you wouldn’t, you only realised Dublin hurling existed 12 months ago

Your a nasty little shithole aren’t ya.

thanks for the inofrmation, but couldnt anyone apply for the funding?

Obviously it is of greater benefit to the GAA to have Croker filled with dubs fair weather fans rahte than to 6-800 who support the game in Kerry…

does the amount of clubs in a county have anything to do with it?..I mean would it make sense to give the same amount of money to leitrim as to Dublin?..

You think they’ll hand that out to just anyone? Carlow Westmeath Antrim and Laois are begging for a minuscule percentage of the Dublin outlay for years now and are getting nowhere.

They could lobby for it. The €6m invested in Dublin hurling (€1m per year for six years) was an initiative introduced by Sean Kelly during his term as GAA President.

Cork has more clubs than Dublin in that case.
