Certain League of Ireland fixtures will be among the first games to take place at the new Lansdowne Road, to be known as the Aviva Stadium, in the summer of 2010.

Hibernian Aviva have secured a 40m, 10-year deal on naming rights for the new stadium, it was revealed by the FAI and IRFU on Thursday.

The FAI has already secured the final of the 2011 Uefa Europa League while the IRFU want to stage rugbys Heineken Cup showpiece at the venue in the same month.

The Aviva Stadiums first international soccer fixture, which is tipped to see Diego Maradonas Argentina visit Dublin, is set to take place in August 2010.

Before then, however, the stadium will stage certain League of Ireland fixtures as a sort of dummy run for the manifold aspects of the stadium.

FAI chief executive John Delaney said: I think our first international match will be in August 2010 and well be announcing shortly who the opposition will be.

Well also probably hold some League of Ireland matches in it before the first international match.

They will be used as a learning curve for stewards, turnstile operators, caterers, all those things. You cant just switch it on so they need to be tested.

Cobh Ramblers have been demoted to the “A” Championship of the League of Ireland. I assume due to the financial difficulties at the club.

I think they will just open both dugouts to accomodate the crowds.
