after Pats bet the team that humiliated Hibs what would people think the difference in standard is - Obviously Celtic & the Huns are miles apart (well Celtic are) but what about the rest
On similar lines, after Anorthosis beat the team that held Chelsea to a draw last season, what do people think the difference in standard is between the Cypriot league and the EPL ?
there is a pattern though - Derry destryoyed a scottish team a few years back in europe & Fc Biggles knocked out aberdeen
Aberdeen results in europe last year was a shot in the arm that the SPL needed but id say the top of the LOI would match the bottom 3 or 4 in scotland
I would place LOI in the lower tier of English & Scottish football.
scottish first?
LOI get some good results in Europe in recent years and Scottish clubs’ performance in Europe is frankly embarrassing sometimes but the problem is consistency.
The record of players going from the LOI to the SPL suggests that only those who improve and put in the hard work will make it. Foran did ok, Noel Hunt has improved no end and Dillon and Richie Byrne have done ok. Others like Wes Hoolohan and now Roy O’Donovan have struggled to make an impact.
There’s a far bigger professionalism in the SPL obviously and it’s only those who adjust their commiment accordingly that have any hope of making it. Most of those would make a decent impression in the Championship too.

has richie byrne been released?
He was released alright, don’t know if he found another club. Think it’s silly of Aberdeen to be honest, no guarantee they’d be able to replace him with anything better and he was hardly breaking the bank.
LOI is around average champioship standard in england while scottish premier league sides (old firm excluded) would be average/poor championship sides…reckon the likes of pats and derry city would hold their own in the SPL…
so using your logic:
- russian football is the strongest in europe
- not paying taxes entitles you to a free stadium

obviously you’re thick enough to believe after reading my comment that a) I’m a LOI fan and http://www.thefreekick.com/board/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/cool.gif a bohs one at that
my god your thickness knows no bounds, but you obviously have the brains to do the books for a LOI team
and in response to your initial question my response was in relation to NCC’s assertion that the result of one match defines whether one country is beter than the other
the astadium remark was just for shits and giggles and NCC took in the spirit in which it was meant
