She certainly gets carried away with devils advocate angle.
He wants young Downey to have free rein to grapple on the edge of the square come June July. We’re going with the same guys, but this time we’re gonna cheat!
That’s the same for any sport anywhere. Except the blondie one on the American football and Cyril and gerlock.
Ben has the aura of someone who doesn’t give a fuck what is thrown back at him. You love to see it.
I’m really warming to him
Eoin Downey is gone to wing-back now is he? Daire O’ Leary has been the full-back so far.
I’m not convinced by O Leary. Might be a placeholder for Joyce when he comes back. Either way they are not dropping Mark Coleman and Joyce is too good to leave out so its either O Leary or Eoin Downey who loses out.
Similar story in their forward line with Dalton - Buckley will be a nailed on starter. Adds tons of pace and has been impressive so far. If anything he will improve when conditions get a bit better. Dalton will probably lose out in the shake up with Harnedy getting his spot but thats presuming they dont persist with Fitzgibbon at WF in which case Harnedy would drop to the bench. They must like what they see with Mullins. Probably O Mahony, Twomey & O Connell all vying for midfield then.
They need a top rank free taker. Who is that?
Not Connolly anyway.
Dalton probably best striker of a ball but where do you accommodate him. Theres a reason he hasnt been on them in the league despite hitting them in big games before. O Connor doesnt see him starting. Fitzgibbon is too busy to hit them. Ideally you want someone traipsing out to hit them from FF line who will probably have a low resting heart rate and not just after making 60 / 70 yard runs up the sideline.
It’s a quandary they need to resolve
You’d nearly forget that when Dalton was U21 and then reaching the intermediate All-Ireland final with Fr. O’ Neill’s the conventional logic was that he was too heavy, didn’t have the required fitness for Cork senior inter-county and his best chance of a start would be in goal. Whatever happens this year, he must’ve done some amount of work behind the scenes to get to the point where he was powering up and down the wing ending a 5 in a row tilt.
Joe butting in early doors as well lest Hoggy Bai steals the limelight.
He was nervous enough but you’d understand that given that it was his first night and I’d say he’s naturally shy enough, but if they give him the space to develop I’d say he’ll be interesting enough and not one of your “ah sure lookit, they were fierce unlucky” merchants.
He was grand for a first day out. You’d be sick of Dalo’s auld guff.
The big smirky head on him, winking away.
He has put in some stellar performances and what he has done to get in shape is incredible. And there are cameos where he has shown outstanding athletisicm. I remember he scored a goal in Ennis leaving McInerney for dead a couple of years ago. He turned Bryan O Mara inside out last year in the Championship before a great finish and 2 years ago repeated the dose in that drawn game against Tipp down the Pairc. Its just his consistency. He can be either really good or anonymous. Galway and Waterford league games cases in point. The 2 penalties last week and this week typifies him.
He seems to thrive against Limerick because of the way they set up defensively going more zonal and yet in the 2 AI finals on the biggest days he was a complete non factor. He wasnt alone to be fair but when O Conor examined what went wrong in the last 2 AI’s Dalton wont have been in the credit column. He’ll be on a short leash I imagine.
Winning it with a Downey at fullback would be even sweeter
He clearly thinks deeply about the game, he has potential.
Harnedy wont start.
The 6 forwards will be:
Healy - Barrett - Fitzgibbon
Buckley - Connolly - Hayes
