Conversely, i don’t disagree with the rest of your post
The standard at underage is poor in Wexford. Still hard to believe that some clubs are only doing one session a week?

My point still stands.
The GAA time is being split.
That’s the problem. Football happens to be the other sport in that relationship.
Our kids are playing football in Wexford when their peers elsewhere are hurling.
It just won’t work.
The other problem is that it becomes an emotional argument based on whatever sport people are raised with.
The facts would appear that in the current age it’s impossible to produce enough quality doing it the Wexford way.
If Dublin were to beat Kilkenny, Wexford would be facing Kilkenny at home last day, with the prospect of advancing if they win and eliminate Kilkenny into the bargain. That’s also assuming that Wexford beat Offaly next week.
We live in hope but Dublin have never beaten kilkenny in nowlan park in lifetime and i’m practically an aul lad
I presume we’d need a draw in Dublin v Galway too though as Wexford’s scoring difference is unlikely to be great in the event a 3 way tie on 6 points. In any event Dublin will hardly win in Nowlan Park.
We beat them down there when Cunningham was over us.
In the league? I forgot that
As a counter argument maybe Wexford as a county have got a lot of things right from a general sports point of view.
A young lad with a bit of talent in soccer or rugby has the potential to play at senior level in those sports with teams in Wexford… (as well as GAA)
Thats not the case for just about every other county in Leinster except Dublin of course.
Maybe its just not all about winning cups and medals. Its about keeping young lads and girls participating in sports that they like to whatever level they can achieve.
As an example a young lad in Kilkenny who doesnt like hurling doesnt have the same opportunities
What Wexford would need in Dublin v Galway then is a Galway win. Dublin and Galway both on 8 points and into Leinster Final. Wexford and Kilkenny both finish on 6 with Wexford advancing in 3rd on head to head.
Or a draw would do as well as you said. The result that would goose Wexford if that scenario unfolds is Dublin beating Galway as you’d have a 3 way tie on 6 points of Kilkenny, Galway and Wexford with Wexford losing out in scoring difference most likely.
Yep. They’d a man sent off that day.
That’s a good point. Wexford is top of the pops from a participation perspective.
But if we ignore winning it would become futile pretty quickly.
Also, I’m sure the lack of opportunity in KK is more than made up for by the ever present chance of winning All Irelands.
Proven again lately by Walter Walsh benefitting from his proximity to New Ross rugby once he was done with proper sport
The only opportunity they don’t have in KK is Gaelic football at a decent level.
They have access to egg chasing and other west British pursuits.
The cricket and hockey scenes are off the charts
Depends on what part of Kilkenny you are in. Mullinavat is a Gaelic football hotbed
That’s bollox.
U14 Soccer All Ireland Final took place today in Kilkenny between Freebooters of Kilkenny and Inny of Westmeath.
Plenty of opportunity to get noticed playing with good teams that are competitive in national competitions. Freebooters and Evergreen in Kilkenny are regularly so.
Between Kilkenny RFC and Kilkenny College if your primary sport is going to be rugby there are paths to higher levels.
The main issue is when kids get to 15/16 to make their choice of what sport to prioritise it’s usually hurling which means soccer and rugby fall away. Probably seen as the road most travelled and in that sense is the easier option.
The kids who played that final, maybe 1-2 get offers abroad. It’s a very big ask to move abroad for kids that age. Staying hurling for your club with your mates is not.
Wexfords championship record v Kk, Galway and Dublin since 2017 is 6 wins, 6 draws and 10 loses. 4 of the 10 loses more than 6 points, all of those 4 against Galway. Apart from Saturday the other 3 were in 2017, 18 & 20.
James Skehill reckons Davy Fitz ‘absconded’ himself from all responsibility in a post match interview
I loved the way he never referenced his name. Just called him “the antrim manager”
