KK will put it up to Limerick for about 25 minutes in each half and then get destroyed in the remaining parts of the game. Theyâd need to get four goals off them, canât see it happening.
Will be interesting to see how Clare and Galway do. Think the latter will run them close ish - Whelan can hurt Limerick imo.
Watched game back. Not too bad a standard, although a lot of errors dotted through it, at the same time. Vigorous rather than consistently vivid.
So much has been opined about the free at the end⌠And yet the most salient aspect has gone, in my experience, unremarked. Thomas Monaghan hurls rhot and was going to fetch, as usual, with his left hand. Paddy Deegan comes in from TMâs right side, a facet that makes it far more likely that a foul will be blown, because the ball is on the far side of TMâs body space. Because TM is rhot, PD has no choice but to âcome through himâ. Not a stone cold free, perhaps, but hard to muster a sustained objection to the call in and of itself. Had Conor Whelan, who fetches with his right hand, been under that puckout, the situation would have been different.
If anything Iâd say youâd have a better chance of sneaking a win against Galway off the back of them beating Kilkenny due to their general flakiness
I had an even better one on the Tipp GAA thread yesterday evening that was delivered with a particular cutting tone but it hasnât received as many likes as I think it deserves.
Consign Kilkenny to a second successive defeat in Donnycarney on Saturday and they will put themselves out of the reach of the Cats and Wexford and qualify for a second Leinster final in a row, the first time the county have reached back-to-back provincial deciders since 2014.
Galway
Played 3 Points 5 Score difference +26.
A win over lowly Laois this weekend and Galway will be on the precipice of the All-Ireland series. With the benefit of another result or two, they could have one foot in the Leinster final by Saturday night.
Kilkenny
Played 3 Points 4 Score difference +38.
The last gasp defeat to Galway complicates matters and they must pick up at least three points from the clashes with Dublin and Wexford to assure themselves of at least a preliminary quarter-final game against one of the Joe McDonagh Cup finalists.
Wexford
Played 3 Points 3 Score difference +26.
After losing to Dublin, Wexford got back to winning ways against Laois but any hopes that Kilkenny might not be interested in the final round game evaporated with their last-gasp defeat to Galway. Simply must beat Westmeath and the Cats to make the final eight.
Westmeath
Played 3 Points 0 Score difference â49.
Just three points separate them and Laois in score difference, which could prove vital if they draw with Laois in the final round as it would be the determining factor in separating them and thus surviving the drop.
Laois
Played 3 Points 0 Score difference â52.
Have shown in the league against the likes of Antrim that they can save their best âtil last and will need to do so in Portlaoise on Saturday week to avoid being relegated unless Kerry win the McDonagh Cup.
Apart from the raucous win in 2014 we have a dire record against them. 2002, 2005, 2006, 2013, 2018, 2020, 2021 all ended in defeat. Iâd take 3rd place in Leinster in a heartbeat given our current position however.
Can still reach a final in a scenario whereby Kilkenny beat Dublin but lose to us. That would also rely on Dublin subsequently losing to Galway on the final day. Weâd be on 7 points then with Kilkenny and Dublin both on 6.
Just the small matter of us winning in Nowlan Park with our championship lives on the line. Probably the most unrealistic part of the above permutation. Iâd expect Kilkenny and Galway to beat Dublin.
Matthias Kenny is gonna put on an absolute hurling masterclass in Salthill just to spite us. I think the coddlers are a serious contender to win Leinster.
