What do you think, lads? I thought we were starting to control the game & get into a bit of a rhythm with the running game & short passing when we conceded the goal direct from a free. Had got it back to 6-5 from 6-3 & were imposing ourselves on the game.
Surely the free should have been for Chin rather than against him but the keeper can’t be letting a long ball drop into the net like that. I actually thought Kevin Foley was fortunate to escape a sin bin early on when he duffed a handpass & dragged that attacker down. Surely a goal scoring opportunity?
I think all our backs are pretty much winning their individual battles but our use of the ball & decision making has been bad too often. The goal gave them oxygen & we have an annoying tendency of conceding converted frees when there’s no need to foul. The game is bypassing a few of them too.
1-9 to 0-10 isn’t a disaster though & we’re shooting into the scoring end after half time. My concern is our series of third quarter &/or second half fade outs, which have become a real trend. It’s occurred in our first two championship games already too. I’d also like us to tidy up our decision making, there are goals to be had if we pick out the passes instead of booming low percentage shots from distance & poor angles.
I guess McDonald will be useful for the diagonal deliveries towards the Canal End, if he’s brought on. Typically intriguing Leinster championship fare.
