Leitrim Football 2013

Paddy Maguire is a big loss although Williams and Prior will suffice on the left side of the defence the next day.
Is it time to give Cathal McCrann his more accustomed role at midfield or in the h/f line to add a bit of power.?

Salthill or Castlebar apparently

This has been now confirmed.

The Hyde doesn’t meet the criteria laid out in the Slattery Report to host the provincial final.

If we get over next Sunday (which I fully expect), I’d prefer to go to Castlebar. Take them on in their own back yard and it’s alot easier to get in and out of than the kip that is Salthill.

Let’s get Sunday out of the way first. Liatroim Abu

I’d rather salt hill if we win on Sunday, they have enough advantage as it is

Barney Breen says Leitrim lost a week over the player axing controversy.

The Ridge County host London in their Connacht SFC semi-final this weekend and will be hoping to make up for lost time in the wake of the dropping of Wayne McKeon, Shane Moran, Tomas Beirne and Conor Beirne from their squad for disciplinary reasons.

“Unfortunately, we lost a week due to the other unfortunate incident,” co-manager Breen states in The Irish Daily Star.

"Regardless of the result on Sunday, it’s still the right decision. We stand by it and I’m happy to make it.

"I have a simple philosophy: you keep doing the things you have done, you will get the same result.

"We are looking forward to getting back to what we do best - play football

“If we get out with a one-point win next Sunday, we will be more than happy.”

Leitrim’s Emlyn Mulligan insists that playing his club football in Dublin will bring him on as a player.

The Leitrim captain switched club allegiance from Melvin Gaels to St Brigid’s after moving to Blanchardstown and the Longford-based Garda told the Irish Independent: "It’s a totally different standard in comparison to what I was playing in Leitrim.

"If you went to a Leitrim club league game and then came up and played in the games I’ve played in recently, it’s two different levels.

"That can only benefit me as a footballer, playing with such quality players, seeing can you do it against them.

“There is no comparison with the level, the standard of senior football here. No disrespect to Leitrim, but it is an acknowledged fact.”

Mulligan is wary of the threat posed by London in Sunday’s Connacht SFC semi-final at Carrick-on-Shannon.

"We’ve played London plenty of times and I suppose we know what they’re capable of.

"One advantage Leitrim have, actually, is that we know London can beat us whereas other counties in Connacht take them for granted.

"But we know they can beat us and maybe we had that issue too last year when we went over there and we were lucky to get out with a small margin of a victory over them.

“I wouldn’t read much into the league game this year (Leitrim beat London by just two points at home) because it was the last game and there was nothing to play for.”

Safe to say Mulligan is a bit of a cunt?

London’s Connacht SFC semi-final showdown with Leitrim in Carrick on Shannon on Sunday will test county and family loyalties to the limit in the Lorcan Mulvey household.

The London star’s parents both hail from Carrick and not only did the young Mulvey grow up cheering for Leitrim, he was at Hyde Park in 1994 when they won their last Connacht title, beating Mayo 0-12 to 2-4.

To make matters worse, it was Mulvey’s tally of 1-2 that went along way to helping the Exiles overcome Sligo at Ruislip, and in doing so give the Mulvey’s and Guckian’s (his mother’s maiden name) of Leitrim a difficult decision to make on Sunday.

“It’ll be a big Mulvey day out,” Mulvey told the Irish World in London.

His uncle Joe Guckian played for Leitrim in the 70s and 80s while his uncle Tom Guckian is a member of the County Leitrim CCC and is the Chairperson of the Páirc Seán committee.

"My mother and father are on the fence at the moment. I think we’ll have to put them in one of the boxes out of harm’s way - I don’t know which way they’re going to sway. I put the question to them and they said they’ll cheer for both and we’ll see how it turns out.

"They’ll be happy enough either way. I’d safely say I’ll have at least ten aunties, uncles and cousins there. I can’t imagine any of them not being at it.

“I had a few Leitrim jerseys in my day. I would have spent summers in Leitrim when I was young - I was at the 1994 Connacht final against Mayo. I was a Leitrim supporter till I was about ten or 11, before I changed over my allegiance.”

Thereafter it was Cavan who became the object of the young Mulvey’s affections, and he would go on to represent them at senior for eight years up until 2010.

Any word on the team? Who will partner Sweeney in midfield?

Mossy Beirne? That is out.
Wayne McKeon? That is also out.
Shane Moran? That is also out.

Probably Paddy McGowan.

Alan Wynn? Will the team be named tonight

Alan Wynne?

Is he not a corner back? I was impressed with him last year.

You heading along to it Massey? I have decided not to let my disagreement with the actions of management interfere with my support of my county so I’ll be there.

I was thinking they might move Lowe to midfield with Croal coming in top of the left.

Robbie Lowe?

I don’t think he has played much in midfield - at county level anyway.

Having put the last approx 7 minutes thought into it, I’d go with the following XV to start :

McCrann

Beck
McMorrow
Wynne

Clarke
Reynolds
Williams

Lowe
Sweeney

Brennan
Mulligan
Hickey

Conlon
Glancy
Croal

I should have put more than 7 mins into this Farmer

I was getting my Lowe’s mixed up.

Am I right in thinking that Daniel is out of the country ?

Yes. Plus he is shit.

I have seen Ronan Gallagher around Mohill in the last few weeks and he was in the Observer before the New York as part of the training squad. I wonder what the story is with him - I would prefer him to McMorrow at full back.

Also I would put Enda Williams into centre half back. While I think Gary Reynolds is an excellent back, I prefer Williams’ playmaking skills and accuracy of distribution. I don’t think Williams is suited to the close marking required of a wing half back. I have never seen Gary play left half so I would put him to right half and switch Colm Clarke over to left half back where I have seen him play before.

I would bring McGowan into midfield but I am intrigued by Alan Wynne playing there.

What’s the craic with Cian Reynolds, the lad we got from Kildare ?

Emlyn Mulligan was having a pop at Leitrim Club football saying how better things are in Dublin…

Is this fella an awful tool?
