I like SOH alright, great pitch and facilities for playing, lot of sound players and club people
Thanks for that - both layered and informative.
It is a unique town.
Republican royalty in John Joe McGirl and Blueshirt royalty in Pat Joe Reynolds, both with pubs and living side by side.
I donāt think there was much aggro down the years @Chancer ?
The advent of the canal development made up the town. There was a shirt factory there with about 100 ladies employed which was an economic godsend and created disposable income to beat the band.
Thereās always been huge community spirit - SOH have won several Scór titles between trath na ceist, novelty act, set dancing etc., Thereās been a drama festival since the 50ās and any assorted tomfoolery you care to name. The amalgamation of the Convent & St. Felims created a huge community school catering for the surrounding hinterland.
Behind most town events lies the hand of Tommy Moran. He, along with the likes of Christy Gallogly, Gerry Mahon and Sean OāSullivan kept driving the club on since the 1950ās.
The two political heavyweights at the bottom of the town tended to their own folk and relations were always the finest. Amazingly, even today, the outlying parishes - The Neddies, The. Willies and Drumreilly all have their funerals with McGirls leaving the townies and Fenagh with Smiths.
It certainly doesnāt have the headaches their neighbours to the East have.
On that note youād be half afraid to open this thread with the goings-on.
Three SOH men on the Leitrim team of the Millenniumā¦
Michael McGuinness
Noel Crossan
Ollie Honeyman
Dan Meehan and Dessie Mc (Big Barrys father)
Noel Crossan, Frank Holohan, Ollie Honeyman, Mickey Quinn and Mickey Martin in the photo. While a HoFamer Michael McGuinness isnāt with this team but I see the Manor boys an has been pointed outā¦
Pure gent is noel crossan. Is he managing anywhere these days?
A lot of them lads were the first team to lose to Londain in the championship including the 2 Manor lads.
Any team announcements yet? Meant to be getting a few good players back but London doing well and a 2nd loss to them this year would effectively end our year, and spell the beginning of the end for Poacher. Iāll give him a pass for last year but if we cannot compete in the basement where do you we go?
Go on - 1977 and 2013. I canāt squeeze Mickey Quinn into this timeframe.
Dan Meehan and big Dessie anyways
It seems that there were more that the Manor two involvedā¦.
Some other notable figures implicatedā¦.
Looks like the team selection is remaining a secret ā¦ā¦
Anything less than a 5/6 point win could hasten the end of this bluffer.
Interesting to know what players we might have back tomorrow
Here ye go @Chancer
So Ml McKiernan replaces his clubman Tom Prior!!!
Some man to bring sweeping changes. Gaffey has been listed in goals the last 3 outings and hasnāt started. No word of BB Mac - weāll need him.
Did we save a few euro for ourselves by not flying any subs over??
Are the rumours true ?
I donāt want to name names in case itās just rumour but Iām guessing ye will know what Iām talking about
