They are in the process of trying to form a new club with Charles Green fronting these moves. He wants to remain in the SPL but they won’t now get the support of 7 of the other 11 current SPL clubs so they’ll have to make an application to go into the SFL. Logically and morally, they should start in the bottom league but there’s reports that they’ll be parachuted into SFL1, one league below the SPL. I’m not exactly sure what happens with the pre-existing debts. Rocko et al?
Kyle Lafferty and Jamie “Nessi” Ness are the two latest players to refuse to report to training, claiming they are free agents.
Pre existing debts are gone, they are rangers plc’s problem. Essentially they are a new club seeking to join at the top, which obviously wouldn’t be allowed only for they are still essentially rangers
Ballsy shout. What price will Celtic be to win next season’s SPL? They’ll surely be the shortest price favourite ever in a major league?
It’s fantastic craic to see Rangers go to the wall like this but you’d really have to think when the dust settles the SPL may be lacking a little something.
While that’s largely true I don’t think we’ve heard the end of it from a legal perspective. HMRC are not going to accept a paltry token gesture pay-off and if they don’t get assets they will go after individuals until they feel they’ve had some punitive or compensatory recompense.
John Brown has emerged as an eloquent spokesman for a bid to take over the newco. He seems to think he’s played for the newco at some point in the past. He gave a wonderful interview to SSN anyway:
“If [the fans] invest, we’ll setup a bank account that all the season ticket money can go in there, and we can guarantee that we will buy this club over from this regime because it’s coming back into Rangers hands.
“Gone are the days, of the, the money that we spent. It’s going to be handled differently this time. The fans are going to buy it over. We have the backing from powerful people who are going to invest, but the fans will invest, and they’ll offer Charles Green, if he says he’s got the title deeds in his name, we’ll make an offer, once we see the hidden letters, any deeds that have been done in the past, if there’s any stumbling box, where’s Ticketus in all this, we’ll deal with that, once we see the title deeds, of this stadium, that I was proud to play for, in a number of years through nine-in-a-row, and we’re going to get our club back, but we need a bit of honesty from Charles Green.”
What if all their players leave?
What’s the story with the transfer ban does that apply to the new co?
Transfer ban is up in the air at the moment as far as I know. Apparently it wasn’t an allowable punishment but it hasn’t been overturned yet and not sure on whether it will transfer across or object like everyone else.
The newco itself seems just as ineptly run as that Rangers club it is hoping to replace. They don’t have a name, any players or a valid membership of any league yet.
Glasgow Celtic still had a healthy gate average 50k or so for their games last season but with the absence of their only rival, would there not be a worry this season that crowds could drop significantly?
The SPL is going to be even more of a joke than usual next season. if by Xmas the hoops are 20 plus points ahead surely interest will dwindle?
You would think European games might make up the shortfall but Parkhead was barely half full/half empty for the European games last season. A couple of early hidings in the CL might see interest in European football drop to last year’s levels too.
When the dust settles, I cant see the collapse of oldco being a good thing for the hoops at all.
The biggest problem may be that Lawell and co may see Rangers demise (especially if they drop back a few divisions) as a chance to reduce spending on players even further, which will obviously affect the chances of any sort of decent run in Europe.
Even when they were handing MON a decent pot of money, the hoops werent going anywhere in Europe.
If it was difficult to attract players to the SPL before, now there isnt even Old Firm games to look forward to. There seems to be no improvement at all in the other SPL clubs. Both Glasgow clubs should try everything in their power to leave the SPL.
