Limerick ‘21 v Kilkenny ‘08 - Who are the GOAT?

I wish I could take back my original comment,
This is really not worth it :man_shrugging:

Its only a bit of craic. I’m twice as irritating in real life

A broad church down in cork

He needs to change team though. He’ll never get a fair shot with Ineos.

I met a Cork man who told me two drunk limerick fans roared some gloating comments into his 3 year sons face

I wasn’t going to mention it but seems like unsubstantiated guff is all the go now

Stop seething mate, it’s all only a bit of fun

I had to put up with some awful roaring in my face from Carkies on the Luas… Da boyz from Killeagh… It was very scary.

Think I’ll throw on a tape of the 73 final. Sit in squalor again for a while

That Kilkenny team will never be beaten. No matter what this Limerick team or anyone else go onto win. They were and are GOAT’s.

Even going back to the 2007 final. It’s an All-Ireland final, of course you think/hope you can do it.

Then reality. A puck out in the first few mins - JJ Delaney catches one of Murray’s puck outs. A couple of minutes later and Tommy Walsh does the same on the other wing. (To be fair to that Limerick team, as outclassed as they were on the day, they never wilted even when up against a much superior team. Other beaten teams in AI finals, take note)

Shefflin, Larkin, Hickey. Class players all over and a ridiculous bench. Mad for Limerick to be even mentioned in the same breath as that collection.

A real honour to be compared with one of our fellow Big 4 rivals. The back to back is such a rarity. The few teams who have achieved it in the last 50 or 60 years are some of the best ever. Any amount of Kilkenny sides, Galway ‘87/‘88, Cork 04/05. Iconic teams. Legacy teams.

And now this Limerick team are up there, even if they don’t add any silverware.

Yeah taking the beating well. In fairness better than most will.

Any cheek about limerick now will just be met with 3-32 to 1-22.

I got mine own back on lads on work for covering my car in cork bunting last week with writing the result in the dirt on the car. Great craic after that result

The popularity of our games owes a lot to that type of banter, I’ve had a ferocious ribbing in school for the past few days, all good fun,

You won’t be able to compare this Limerick team to that kk team for a long time. We all know how great that kk team was, mainly because so many of them played on so much longer and went on to be such all time greats. I wouldn’t like to suggest that any current Limerick player will reach the level of greatness of Shefflin or Tommy or JJ.

In fairness, I’ve found the Carkies to have been most gracious since last Sunday. Most of their ire has been directed at their team and management’s shortcomings.

The Tippos and Macnas Heads, however have lost their shit over it.

No in fairness, there was no bitterness. I was parked beside a lad from Cork and we were chatting away before sitting into our cars. He actually said it was a privilege to witness that first half in the flesh

I’d say he was plamausin you mike. It’s never a pleasure to watch your team get a hole opening.

Maybe he was. But if you’re going to get bate, at least if you’re bate where you’re not saying to yourself " if only" or" the ref made a balls of that call", then there’s no regrets. You can take your beating and move on.

That’s the kind of grovelling bootlicking that makes HRH so popular in Cark.

Like Gary Kirby’s finger?

Or Tony Keady’s ban

I said it to the auld fella after the semi-final this year that this Limerick team isn’t far off that Kilkenny team in terms of quality and depth. There are no passengers whatsoever in the first 18, not to say 15. The next challenge for Kiely is to maintain that level of hunger and competitiveness over the next 3-4 years. There’s nothing to suggest that can’t happen but as others have alluded to, things can change very quickly in sport.
