In fairness to Teege, heās had a fair bit of success recently. Won a county with his own club; and has cleaned up with Thomasā. Again, a good team but he still got the job done.
Plus did well with Kilworth.
Monagea nearly always have a Charleville or North Cork based coach involved with them through the Herlihys in Cavanaghs, wonder who they have this year?
Thereās surely another OāConnor to go around.
Havenāt heard but Iāll be chatting/drinking with a Monagea man over the weekend and Iāll find out!
Ben!
He wouldnāt be the first or the last
I can only speak from experience.
He is an exemplary human being. One of the best
TJ would have a good bit of respect from the lads he managed in the Limerick team which is a good sign when you look at how poorly it finished out after the highs of 2014
heād hit you between the eyes with the truth.
Any man has a problem with that isnāt a man
The Dow was very complimentary towards TJ after the AI win in ā18, I remember him specifically going out of his way to mention him for the work he put in without getting much reward.
It just didnāt work out for him really with Limerick. Suffered from unfortunate timing too, the lifecycle of that team really ended with the gut wrenching Kilkenny semi final loss in ā14, while the Lynch, Finn, Gillane, Casey x2 group were still a few years off coming through. 2015 and 2016 were very tough years to endure for everyone.
His big failing as the limerick manager Was probably who he surrounded himself with. Wasnāt there a fella from tipp coaching at one stage along with David Clarke and don Flynn.
Davy Clake tearing up and down the sideline with a hurley like a fucking ape
He probably overachieved in 2014 tbh. That result v kk meant the team was always going to be kept together for 2015 for another shot at the all Ireland when realistically you needed to start a re build. In fairness as bad as 2015 and 2016 were it also made much Kielys job much easier in 2017 to Start fresh.
Very difficult to come in and start breaking up a team whoās knocking on the door in semi finals.
Iāve great time for Teege. But there is a huge difference between being a good club coach and being a successful intercounty coach/manager nowadays.
At intercounty level, there really is a load of work needed. Everybody in the backroom needs to be really good and the manager has to be able to pull it all together.
There are plenty of people who I would consider pretty good club coaches who wouldnāt necessarily be good at intercounty level. And the reverse is probably true too. They are slightly different skillsets needed.
Lads knackered from wareing into tackle bags pre game.
Iām fairly sure Pat Gilroy is considered a delegator and more of a director of operations than a coach or manager and heās had a lot of success with Dublin.
youāre a facilitator at intercounty level as a manager. Logistics/planning/methodology
hurling is very far down the list
thatās the word. Delegator.
