Then we’d have two field sessions a week and would do both. It means it’s a long session but it’s tailored from an S&C point-of-view and, most importantly, players aren’t out 4 nights a week for club GAA. Coming up to week of Championship, it’s weighted in favour of the sport being played.

The players pushed for this, as perhaps communication & organisation between managements wasn’t always the best in previous years.

I think it worked well tbh; I know we didn’t have a great year in either but I think that was down to players being missing rather than faults with how we managed the schedule.

Same in my own club. Mixture of both and then emphasis on whichever code is being played at the weekend come championship. Albeit it was probably easier to accommodate both during the split season period. If it’s good enough for Slaughtneil (as referenced by Brendan Rogers recently) then the split session should be fine for any dual club. Had years where football and hurling trained separately and you’d barely have a night free.

I can see how it could be a problem in clubs where the management teams don’t get on or in clubs where one sport is heavily favoured over the other; or maybe where you are not the one club, only ‘sister clubs’.

4 nights a week is a lot of commitment and then if you play soccer or something too, there’s a lot going on.
