Just back from Kevin Long Park, Feenagh.

NGSMCIHCG2R3 Result.

G/B 4-29 Croom 1-14.

A scoreline that scarcely seemed possible at half time. Croom produced their best display of the year in the opening half - they were tigerish and tenacious, trailing by only three points at the short whistle. Mark O’Kelly was pinging his puck outs into Conor Laffan and James ‘Post’ Malone who kept finding pockets of space. Pretty much everything they hit went over in this opening period, Jack Daly was excellent at midfield. G/B were hurling ok but hit a mountain of wides, some of them in the deplorable category.

Second half was one way traffic. Three quick fire points on the resumption put the game to bed, G/B getting a grip on the puck outs at both ends. Croom had a sniff of a goal chance to give them a sliver of hope but young Brian Sheehy made a tremendous block on Laffan to avert the danger.

Moments later young Paudie Murphy scrambled home at the other end to kill it as a contest. Croom began to tire as the scores rained down on a beleaguered Croom rearguard. Luke Flynn finished off a fine move to rattle the roof of the net as the contest petered out.

Midway through the second half the great warrior Dodge entered the fray for his seasonal bow, his 26th year playing adult hurling for the club. The four time All-Ireland winning selector, 2013 Munster title winning captain, 1998 county Junior A hurling champion and 2005 county intermediate hurling champion duly grabbed one goal and set up Murphy for his second to complete the rout. An incredible servant for club and county. And hopefully there’s a bit more left in the old warhorse yet.

The lively Mark Reidy blasted home a late consolation but a really tough night for Croom. They’ll need at least three points from their last two games against Feohanagh and Murroe Boher to avoid a relegation final which looks unlikely. For a club who were in a senior club county final only 15 or 20 years ago it’s a really sad fall from grace.

Job done for G/B, but a lot of room for improvement at the same time. Coughed up a few easy scores while missed a fair amount at the other end too. But another big score put up, three wins on the trot and a place in the knock out stages secured.

Feenagh had the pitch in absolutely splendid condition. As good a surface as there is in the county. The legendary Jim Long was on steward duty and ran parking proceedings in a most professional manner.

In the other game in the group tonight Knockainey overcame Murroe Boher 1-23 to 0-17. Feohanagh play Kierans on Sunday in the final match of this round.

It looks like a G/B win over Kierans next weekend could secure top spot with a round to go. Knockainey have responded well to an opening day shellacking and look set to claim second in the group. Really shaping up to be a fantastic end to the championship with four or five teams fancying their chances of winning it out.

As an aside, it’s rarely discussed on TFK but the split season has been a tremendous success. Not even September and our club has played three hurling championship matches and four in football. Superb. And out again next weekend. Games, games and more games which is what players and supporters want.

More cracking club action in store over the coming days.

Not long in from clarina.

The box-office LJHC delivers yet again.
The 630 throw in saw the crowd come late and swell as the first half went on. It was nip and tuck for the first 30 as the askayton boys played up the slope into the customary clarina breeze.

The half ended 10 apiece as Willie O’Meara hit a series of good frees and his netminder was out quickly to foil the only clear goal chance of the half
Young Farrell had caused problems but Sean O’Dea sorted him out

As so often happens, the kilteely boys did better playing up the clarina slope and quickly took a lead of 14-11. Brian o’grady was coming into the game at 6, having been bypassed for most of the first half.

The deelsiders came good as kilteely wasted a series of opportunities when they snaffled a goal from a turnover and stretched out to lead by 2. The red and green responded when a delivery from o’grady was eventually pushed over the line by O’Dea .
Askayton levelled at 1-17 each and it was all to pay for with a couple of minutes left in regulation…

Paudie ahern stepped up and led kilteely to a 2 point lead which was narrowed to 1 by an excellent O’Farrell point from the sideline.

With a few minutes left in additional time, a long askeaton delivery from a free led to prolonged scramble in front of goal…claims for 65s, frees in, frees out and common assault echoed for a good 30 seconds. kilteely eventually took possession and cleared weakly as the opposition took the sliotar and played laterally from left to right to set up the shot. However the last pass was overhit and went over the line. Time was blown amid contrasting scenes of celebration and beration of the referee.

A cracking evening’s entertainment (if you were neutral or on the right side of the result).

Gobshites here who wouldn’t kick snow off a rope or hit a sliotar out of a plastic bag will never read the room, those who have been at the coalface through the years know it’s a resounding success.

How has it been a success?

It’s been an abject failure.

We can’t get play championship club games in may, June or July but we can play them in fading light half six in the pissing rain on a Thursday evening with absolutely nobody at them with players rushing home from work.

That’s your success?

It’s a great time to be a player, I’m incredibly jealous of them

Have you ever rushed home from work?

So trying to personally insult somebody after a silly comment.

Kids can’t go to these games because often their parents who probably don’t even know the games are on are still not home from work.

More walk overs :white_check_mark:
Less players playing :white_check_mark:
Smaller attendances :white_check_mark:

But I can sit on my fat hole watching Limerick in the Gaelic grounds for six months of the year so fuck the clubs.

If tonight is anything it’s a prime example the complete and utter nonsense of the whole split season argument.

Players sitting around eight months for a tiny cohort of players to return only to be playing a on a Thursday even at half six.

It’s disrespectful at the very least to the club player. Not to even think about growing the clubs and trying to get more people involved.

But, but, but Electric Picnic comes first now.

It’s beyond ridiculous we can’t play in the high summer because of these tedious inter county championships but it’s a massive success because we can play on a Thursday evening in fading light with nobody at the games.

There looked to be a good crowd in Kilmallock tonight judging by the stream and there was a few other games on.

County finals were always late October so any Friday or Saturday games were played in fading light.

You never answered my question, I often rushed home from work to play matches and missed the start of them particularly when I was working in Dublin and playing in WH, happened in LK also when I was on co-op, absolutely nothing to do with the split season matches have always been scheduled at inappropriate times.
