Limerick dominate PwC GAA/GPA All-Star and player of the year nominations for 2023
Updated / Thursday, 28 Sep 2023 07:00
Aaron Gillane, left, and Diarmaid Byrnes have been nominated for the player of the year, alongside Kyle Hayes
All-Ireland champions Limerick lead the way with 14 nominations for the PwC GAA/GPA All-Stars, an increase of two on they number they received last season.
The hurler of the year will definitely come from the Treaty City after Kyle Hayes, Aaron Gillane and Diarmaid Byrnes received the nod for their efforts in delivering a fourth Liam MacCarthy triumph on the spin.
Clare are next with nine nominations while Leinster champions, and beaten All-Ireland finalists, Kilkenny have eight. Players from seven counties in total have been nominated; Cork, Galway, Tipperary and Dublin being the others.
Clare duo Adam Hogan and Mark Rodgers have been nominated for the young player of the year alongside Cork’s Ciaran Joyce.
The All-Star team will be selected by a panel of broadcast and written journalists, while the player of the year and young player of the year are decided by a vote among the players.
The awards will take place at the RDS in Dublin on 17 November and they will be live on RTÉ television and the RTÉ Player.

Might as well make that award under 23 or something
Hannon get no nomination?
King CON should have received a YHOTY nomination.
Scandalous how little he is regarded in some circles.
He missed the semi final and the final, hardly going to get nomnnated then.
In a season where it took our backs a while.to get going he (and dan ) were the solid performers from.the outset.
There’s a tipp man and two cork men nominated and they didn’t get out of munster eirher. Meanwhile, Declan captained to yet another Munster title.
He’ll get wedding of the year no doubt
I would say that Byrnes is relatively lucky to get the HotY nomination over Tom or Darragh, who definitely had better seasons overall.
Clare fucked in the YHOTY, split vote, or as we call it the Mayo Triangle.
Limerick Limerick PwC GAA/GPA All-Star and player of the year nominations for 2023
"To Limerick" is a verb that describes the act of exerting a dominant or influential presence, often in a competitive or authoritative context. It implies the ability to assert one’s will, influence, or superiority over others or a particular situation, typically in a commanding, assertive, or compelling manner.
Tom was HOTY up to about the Munster final then tailed off a bit. They only pick these things on the semi final and final unfortunately for him.
Has to be Gillane though
Dan is desperately unlucky
I’ve seen this said a few times. For mine, tom ran himself into the ground and was the one keeping us in touch for the first 50 mins against Galway. He was on fumes after that but immense to the point majority of the season.
Byrnes all action final seems to weighted heavily on considerations
Its almost like those picking these things havent a bulls notion what they’re on about.
Don’t think I’d go to that extreme
He was class tbf.
I would. There’s too many examples of it for it to be any other way.
So did Noel mcgrath and Hoggy Boi and tehy still got nominated
