Limerick GAA 2023-2024.... 5 in a row is not here

Kyle is either 6 or 11 next season.

No more of this out on the wing stuff.

We could have had a traffic cone in place of him v cork and it would have had a similar impact.

I’d attribute a lot of our defensive issues to not having him at 11 as well tbh.

The ball was coming out that bit easier this year.

Byrnes had a fairly poor season - not sure Kyle can be taken out of half backline. His pace is badly needs

We need a young buck tk break into the team tk release him. Ideally a Colin Coughlan with more aggression and pace.

That’s a nasty comment about Kyle.

That’s not right, Casey and Finn are 28, Nash is 27. Obviously the first two have had serious injuries but there’s no reason they can’t get back to their best. These players are in their prime years. Dan is a bit older but playing as well as he ever has. Byrnes and Hannon had some difficult moments this year but both, especially Byrnes, have loads left in them.

Personally I hate when players are written off once they pass 30, or even approach it. There’s no reason players can’t still play at their best til early 30s or some mid 30s. Of course if the whole unit is past 30 it might be a worry but we are a while off that yet.

Ultimately, if players had been fit and Nash had started, and we’d had DOD and WOD at midfield and Lynch at 11 in front of the forward unit, I don’t think we’d be having this conversation.

CON to half back would add a lot of energy and pace back in and English at midfield would add serious pace which would cover a lot. I don’t think we’re short of options.

Peter Casey arguably the biggest loss.

You have just listed a perfectly good reason why they conceivably won’t get back to their best. Finn and Lynch both look to be shadows of themselves after serious injuries.

Very early to say it of Finn. Barely back in the fold.

It is a worry about Lynch tho. Hopefully trims down a bit and gets back to.old.self but it is a concern after a.season well below bar.

He’s gone an awful size physically. It’s hardly needed.

I don’t think Finn plays v cork if Nash was fit.

Lynch back to his midfield along with dod would transform things.

When it’s one or the other with wod they are too easy to shut down as link men.

It might take players a year or two to make it back to their best after a season or an injury like that. And it’s harder for an individual to look as impressive when the team is under pressure elsewhere as well. Writing off 28 years olds is just nonsense.

Lynch has to be at 11. It should be non negotiable.

18 months to be back to full power after ACL

Is that right? You can be back playing in six months these days. Though obviously there’s often other damage done so they’re not all the same. Either way, writing off a player completely is nonsense.

You can be back playing but it’s around the 18 month mark before you’ve your full super powers back.

I’d totally disagree. He’s a magnificent mid fielder. Wasted at 11.

Big difference between writing a player off and saying they are not going to return to their absolute best. Injuries routinely take performance away from athletes that can’t be recouped, not exactly controversial.

Blindly saying that they’re in prime years is a simplistic way of looking at things, and that’s being kind.

A corner back losing pace is usually the end of them though. Just look at Barrett for Tipperary.

Results suggest otherwise. Limerick are far better with Lynch at 11. His best hurling by far is at 11. Our two most disappointing results in recent years have been with Lynch at midfield.

Nash
Byrnes
Kyle
Cathal o Neill
Daragh o Donovan
Cian lynch
Tom Morrissey
Adam English
Gearoid hegarty
Shane o Brien
Peter Casey

That would be some fun team.

Offsetting Hannons playing making abilities by having two playing mid fielders.

English adds pace in that middle third.

Two giants in both corners able to win ball and then Peter Casey moving and dragging full backs all over the field.

Question is whether life moves them on really. It’s not necessarily age, but general weariness and other demands.
I think if they win next year (and I think they will if they manage to dodge Galway again), some may decide that they’ve evened the score and move on with life.
Not that I’d know, but it seems a relentless enough grind.

No id say the exact opposite. Lynch was terrific at mid field.

He’s wasted at 11.

Too easy to handle and can’t compete for opposition puck outs.

You want him as much ball as possible.

That’s clearly nonsense. He’s an incredible ball winner at 11 and we missed that ability massively in the cork game also.
