Limerick GAA 2023-2024

It’s some bullshit. My in-laws are too old now to be traipsing to matches after having attended club and county games for the last 50 years. They would absolutely love to be able to watch a match at home in comfort instead of trying to follow the scores on FB or twitter. And there’s thousands of people like that.No thought given to people overseas who love to sit down and watch a club match either.

It’s an achievement to even find scores on twitter. It’s pathetic really.

Well that’s blatantly true, there are significantly more regular club attendees from Limerick here than anywhere else.

The reality is more on the other side, most would be unable to watch the stream as they would be at other matches but it used be a great resource to be able to buy the match and watch it back later.

Between aging supporters, those abroad and just general marketing, it’s a joke. Backwards.

I brought this up here quite recently, and was shouted down by a county board alickadoo.

I am genuinely stunned the clubs tolerate this. Are you actually aware of what other counties have?

They will argue that the attendances are now up on 2024. But when you factor in a number of things…

The Senior hurling quarter and semis were standalone and not double headers. A blantant attempt to get more money out of people.

A number of clubs made the breakthrough like NCW, doon and sides in lower grades.

The weather was decent for most of the hurling (football games actually got the worst of it)

Also there is little to no accountability on the gates, “its up”, rather than a breakdown of money. I know i paid into a football game at junior level, and 14 people were at it. What grades do well? If games are all about money they should do away with so many lower grades.

As you say, no marketing at all. A standalone slot for streaming on a Thursday or sunday eve or even a package of 3 streamed games for 20 quid etc on a weekend.

Instead in 2023 they only announced it the morning of the c ship.

Completely forgetting that clubs have membership abroad and would gleefully pay to watch their family etc.

How can galway claim to make a bag load of cash and limerick cant? Simple, they have their shit together.

Also, the scheduling last year was an absolute shitshow- something like 12 matches on Saturday at 7pm with none on during the afternoon.

This year was slightly improved and I know plenty of people, including myself, who went to multiple matches across the weekend when that was an option.

As you say, there is no transparency around attendances really; it might be up but, from the figures I was told, it wasn’t enough across the whole of Championship to read too much into it either way.

Not to be this year.

My man on the ground was blaming the management anyway. I’m sure The Cellar was tremendous fun yesterday.

It’s been the managements fault with them for the last 18 years!

I was happy to accept it as the official excuse anyway.

The cellar will be hit hard over winter which is why I don’t think they will be back strong. Youngfellas there tend to make the switch to soccer or drink or both.

Plus, what young fella wants to even live near that shithole any more.

That was 2005, we had a man sent off just before half time, the two Reales beat us on their own. I’ll have to try to root out that programme because I don’t recall how big our panel was. We did have a lot more from Cappagh playing with us back then than we do now. These days there are only two of them.

Is there an election coming up or what??

Doon best Mungret 0-17 to 0-13 in U20 Premier Championship tonight… Gareth Thomas with an outrageous performance, best player on field by a mile. Scored a sideline near halfway was magic… Mungret poor on the night with Fintan Fitz brightest spark but didn’t get enough ball to him and didn’t have much support around him. Sean McDonald performed well for Doon aswell. Good watch but any match with Paddy Lyons reffing is liable to have a few crazy decisions.

How were they aowed to apply? I thought that funding was for regional facilities.

This is just for Patrickswell. Friends in high places?

I see the county final with Camogue and Ahane is scheduled for Thursday night, with the squad Ahane have I feel that the result is a forgone conclusion… Camogue will get their comeuppance … Even with out camogues injuries they still wouldnt be able for Ahane… The east will be celebrating far and wide thursday night…
