Limerick GAA 2023 - League champions means nothing now 🐐

I have a family member on that Caherline team

Ah you are one of the Killmallock AN Others. I have you placed now

HT: Adare 0-11 Ahane 0-7.

Poor enough fare tbh, Ahane have done well in general play but have hit some energy-sapping wides.

Tom on Dec is interesting. Dan was cleaning up at centre-back early on but John Fitz is sitting off him and has picked off a couple of scores, including an unbelievable shot which swerved ridiculously from left to right under pressure.

It was level approaching HT but they kicked on just before, Charlie McCarthy scored an unbelievable point from the sideline just on the whistle.

David O’Mahony at HF best for Adare. Mark Connolly, Jody Hannon doing alright.

Tom class for Ahane, 3 great points. Moran & Shanahan doing a lot well but killing them with wides. Paudie Harnett doing well at HB aswell.

Croom a point up against Caherline at half time, 0-08 to 1-04.

This has draw-and-see-who-avoids-the-worst-beatings-against-the-big-four written all over it

Ye sent in the 1-15 for each team before hand and turned out nothing changed

Yea that’s him.

Niall Moran in reality.

Two draws on the opening night of the box office Limerick club hurling championships.

Looks like another game played in front of a blind man and his dog @peddlerscross.

Heard Johnny made clean shite of the game. Standard

At least the draw mean both teams are alive I suppose. Probably a case of who can lose the rest by the least

There was actually a huge crowd there tonight, busiest I’ve ever seen Claughaun. Barely space to move.

Sadly the game didn’t really live up to that. Second half was better than the first, and we were treated to an unbelievable performance by Tom Morrissey.

But both sides defended deep and lumped ball on top of each other, the tempo was never as high as you’d like.

Adare were ahead at the break but Ahane clawed a few scores back, then Tom dispossessed Hannon with a lovely flick, picked up the ball, raced through and buried it in the back of the net to put them up by a point. In fairness to Adare, that woke them up a little and they responded almost straight away. A loose ball broke in behind the full-forward line, Willie was on it like a shot and flashed it into the top corner. Came off the back stanchion, I don’t think the umpire even saw it but Willie wheeled away celebrating.

Tom caught ball after ball and was being fouled all over the place, I think he finished with 1-9, 1-3 from play. An absolute class act. Dec ended up full-back, didn’t look right at all, barely pucked a ball. PJ Hall in goal for Adare ended up getting hooked at one point and Ahane got a score. Bryan Flynn, who I’m not really familiar with, came on at centre-forward for Fitzgibbon and made a big impact, scored a great point from the touchline with his first touch.

At 1-14 apiece approaching the end, Johnny gave a contentious enough free in midfield on the touchline to Ahane. Looked like Mark Donnellan had simply run into the Adare man. Tom took the free and from the crowd’s vantage point from directly behind the free, it looked like it started wide, but he had drawn it beautifully. The umpire waved it wide. Mikey Browne was on the line, he put up his flag. Johnny shook his head at him initially, Mikey kept the flag up and Johnny came over for a chat. Johnny then jogged into his umpires, had a little chat and they kept the wide decision.

Ahane crowd were incensed. But a weak shot from Wayne Mac landed on top of Dan. Tom and Ciaran Barry worked it up the pitch between them really well, Barry cut inside into midfield with Tom bombing on the overlap down the left wing. Barry took the shot on himself (which probably wasn’t the right option with Tom unmarked) but nailed it to put them a point up. Adare fought hard to win the break on the next puckout, the excellent David O’Mahony got the ball and drove it over to level it. Johnny blew up on the puckout.

Ahane probably did more of the hurling but really lacked another forward outside of Tom, they hit some shocking wides. Paudie Harnett went off with what looked like a bad enough injury, he had been excellent in defence. Ciaran Barry grew into it when he pushed into midfield and nailed what looked to be the winner.

For Adare, O’Mahony was excellent. Willie didn’t touch the ball that much but got 1-2 from play. Did a few wides over the shoulder too. Ronan Connolly was decent in the second half, but couldn’t deal with Tom under the high ball really. I thought Joe Sweeney was decent in the first half too and Flynn who came on made an impact.

Overall, standard not spectacular. Both sides will feel they could have won it and I think both teams had goals of getting the win here and then shocking one of the big boys. Draw probably means neither will make it out of the group.

In that you are correct, he is a fuck of a referee, did OK in the first half, but obviously decided at halftime he wasn’t being noticed enough so blew fir everything in the second half.

Tuesday and Wednesday nights are far more prestigious for midweek fixtures than a Thursday.

Playing games in Claughaun :grinning:

Is there even a stand or a few seats there?

Bryan Flynn would have featured on under age academy panels around the time of Dylan O SheĂĄ and Josh Considine

Adare 1-15
Willie Griffin 1-4 (0-1 free)
John Fitzgibbon 0-4 (0-1 free)
David O’Mahony 0-3
Shane Heffernan 0-1
Joe Sweeney 0-1
Charlie McCarthy 0-1
Bryan Flynn 0-1

Ahane 1-15
Tom Morrissey 1-9 (0-6 frees)
Willie Brennan 0-2
Mark Donnellan 0-1
Paudie Harnett 0-1
Dan Minihan 0-1
Ciaran Barry 0-1

I would say Tom won at least 3 of those frees himself, and scored 1-1 from turnovers he put in himself. An unbelievable club player.
