Limerick GAA 2023 - League champions means nothing now šŸ

Great to see Pat Ryan Simon back in Croker.

A real feel good story.

That Mothers and Others playing at half time thing was a bit off though. Youā€™d imagine theyā€™d have been better served letting another couple of U12 sides play.

I saw a piece on the news the other day where there was some group of mothers from cork getting ready to play in Croke park.

Many of them had only taken up football this year. The founder of the team was then on about how they wanted to go to New York to play there.

The whole thing was a bit odd.

I was hearing about some of the training Limerick done in the spring and youā€™d wonder what the long impact will be on a lot of players. Sounds far more brutal than a slick sport science approach I was expecting.

The Mothers and Others concept is great tbf and Iā€™ve seen how well it works. But surely you get more out of letting an underage team of girls in to play for 10 minutes at half time instead :man_shrugging:

Yeah. Liam Bowles and that crew playing

I saw that actually. A good concept and increases GAA participation. They were a bit pushy about the trip to New York alright considering thereā€™s countless other mothers and others teams across the country.

Cork, sure.

It was a really odd segment. They were kinda acting as if they had invented the mothers & others (or mothers & udders as one local wag called it) concept.

Cork at its finest. Shur GM&O has been going since the 00ā€™s. Twas hardly them that started it?

No but as has been said theyā€™re from Cork so they will believe that they did anyway and that they do it better than others.

Itā€™s a desperate affliction to be honest about it. Gobshite-itis

ā€˜I couldnā€™t tell John to be honestā€™ - Gillaneā€™s Frisbee injury fright before All-Ireland final

Limerickā€™s star forward suffered a minor knee injury before the Kilkenny but his fitness for the game was never in doubt.

AARON GILLANE SAYS he suffered a slight knee injury in the week leading up to the All-Ireland SHC final, but stresses that he was never a doubt for the Croke Park decider.

Rumours regarding the Limerick star forwardā€™s fitness circulated in the days before Limerickā€™s showdown with Kilkenny where they were aiming to complete a three-in-a-row.

Gillane, of course, did start and produced another inspiring display as he helped himself to seven points as his county cemented their place at the summit of hurling.

Responding to the speculation around his availability for the final, Gillane explained that he suffered a minor knee problem which caused him to panic.

ā€œIt was a funny story. I was throwing around the Frisbee out the front of my girlfriendā€™s house on the Tuesday before the final, and there was a soccer ball in the yard. I thought it would just be my luck that I would fall over the soccer ball, so I went over to kick it out of the way. And whatever way I kicked the soccer ball, I hurt my knee. It was random enough.

ā€œIt was nothing major, just a strained medial ligament.ā€

Gillane added that he took action as soon as he felt the pain, calling up the Limerick physio to ask about assessing the damage while keeping the matter from manager John Kiely.

ā€œI couldnā€™t tell John that to be honest so I rang the physio straight away and said, ā€˜Do whatever you want but donā€™t tell John. I donā€™t want him asking any questions, please.ā€™

ā€œI just had to strap it up a small bit and away you go. Iā€™d say I did a small bit myself with Mark on the Tuesday, and was back at training then on the Friday. I was definitely more worried about it but I was always going to be playing. It was never in doubt.ā€

The post-All-Ireland final celebrations have settled down, according to Gillane, as the club championships get underway. Similar to his inter-county campaign, Gillane will play his club games with Patrickswell without the services of Cian Lynch.

Limerickā€™s two-time Hurler of the Year suffered a serious ankle injury the week before the All-Ireland final, damaging ligaments during a training game. Lynch had just returned to action from a hamstring tear when the injury setback occurred, and now looks set to miss the entire Limerick SHC season.

ā€œWe were all devastated for him,ā€ says his clubmate Gillane.

ā€œThe thing about Cian is he would never have given off the impression that affected him. He was always the same bubbly character that he is, having a laugh, and having the craic with people. He was a huge loss for us. We were all sickened for him.

ā€œI think I said it to someone after the match that the supporters, and everyone watching the match, they all see what Cian does on the field. What he offers off the field in terms of being in the dressing room, and leadership, that canā€™t go under the radar. He still had a huge part to play in that final.

ā€œHeā€™s always there to chat with someone. If thereā€™s someone nervous, heā€™ll go over and just start making them laugh or start doing something stupid to calm them down. Itā€™s Cian being Cian. Everyone loves being around him, everyone had great time for him, and he has great time for everyone.

ā€œIā€™d say thereā€™s 35 or 36 fellas on our team that could all say Cian Lynch is one of their best friends.ā€

Gillane says that Lynch is continuing to perform that role in the Patrickswell dressing-room, although they will miss his presence greatly on the pitch.

ā€œWith Limerick, itā€™s one thing, but with Patrickswell he pulls absolutely everything together. Heā€™s just such huge player. Heā€™s here there and everywhere. One of the best things I can say about Cian is the bigger the occasion, the better the performance youā€™re going to get out of him.

ā€œPatrickswell is a tiny club. When youā€™re missing the best hurler in the country for the last couple of years, itā€™s obviously going to sting us.

ā€œAt the end of the day, Patrickswell is his home and heā€™s going to want the best for everyone in Patrickswell and if thereā€™s anything at all he can do, heā€™s going to do it. So, heā€™s at all the trainings and his brother is flying it at corner-back, so thatā€™s keeping him going.ā€

Heard Sean Finn and Tom Morrissey on with Ray Darcy there. They came across very well despite that cunt Darcyā€™s attempts at the end to get a headline out of them. He tried stoking the fires with Kilkenny a bit but Tom Morrissey batted it off with consummate ease.

Donovan was very good on Woolies podcast, was also on OTB last week where he sounded a bit philosophical his team mates humans and all that sort.

Falls into the deep thinker category.
