Hurlers go to hurling match. These weekly updates are essential.

Just back from Fitzgerald Park, Kilmallock.

A fabulous evening for a game of ball. A game that really came to life in the second half as the Bouncers staged a superb comeback to pick up the precious two points on offer.

Blackrock, aided by a stiff breeze, led by 7 at HT. 1-13 to 0-09.

It was all Garryspillane on the resumption as Eoinsy Sheehan grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck. He fired over a few screamers as the Bouncers supporters belatedly found their voice. Paudie Leahy was majestic on the frees for the Rockies, though, as he repeatedly punished Garryspillane indiscipline.

With the gap at 4 and Blackrock looking comfortable enough, the Bouncers were thrown a lifeline by a fluke goal. A long booming clearance - might have been from Ciaran Sheehan or Paddy Kennedy - bounced on the immaculate surface and deceived the unfortunate Mikey Duggan in goal.

A one point game but Leahy responded immediately with two frees. (He was to only miss one all night long, in the dying embers of the game). What done for Blackrock though was the lack of support he received, he was fighting a one man battle up there. He scored all their second half total of 0-05, one from play and four frees.

Still despite a paucity of second half scores, they led by four before the game turned late on. A long ball in was gathered by young Callum Sheehan ahead of All-Ireland winner Richie McCarthy and he flashed to the net as the large crowd in attendance really came to life.

Dylan Oā€™Shea levelled it with a monster free from the sideline before Bryan Heavey put one over from miles out to edge them ahead amid a welter of excitement. Jimmy Quilty was class on the ball, sprayed it around all night with impunity but nothing was sticking inside as Colin Ryan and Ciaran Sheehan cleared a rake of ball when it came to the crunch. Another difficult free from Oā€™Shea concluded the scoring, an enjoyable game overall.

A match both sides would have targeted in their battle to avoid the drop. A sore one for Blackrock, bragging rights for their neighbours over the road.

Also, fuck Adare.

Great report, thanks.

Was Mark Quinlan playing?

Where was Ciaran Sheehan playing, saw that he was 24 on the programme?

Mikey Duggan have serious distance on his puckouts?

Where was Quilty playing?

Dawson any good?

Best player on the pitch?

Yes.

Sheehan played in the full back line, mostly corner back. He was decent.

Even against the breeze Duggarā€™s puck outs were still getting well past midfield. He was awful unlucky for the first goal, just bounced and flew off the surface. He went with the hand to catch it, if he had his time back heā€™d go with the hurley.

Quilty was at midfield. Got through an amount of work. Heā€™s too unselfish at times though, always looking for the pass even when his own score is on.

Dawson was up and down. Got one cracker in the first half but wasnā€™t in it in the second half really.

My official TFK MOTM would have to be Eoinsy. Really stood up at the crunch moments.

The state of Woolys glasses on it

Sound!

I really like Ciaran Sheehan, I think he has it.

Duggan hurt us a lot in the Junior B last year with his puckouts with the wind at his back. At that level, being able to hit the full-forward line straight was massive. I still wonder are they getting the most out of Richie Mac at full-back when a pacy forward can really hurt him.

Richie was always carrying a bit but even more so now. Teams will focus on putting a pacy lad in on top of him. His knee was heavily strapped too.

Mind you, he still came bullocking out with his usual quota of inspirational clearances.

What age is Ciaran Sheehan? He did look good tonight.

I would say he is 21 this year. Thought himself & Quinlan were the two standouts against us last year, even though it was Callum Sheehan that got two goals. Hickey is always a handful in attack.

Jim-Bob injured as well, I think.

Yeah, no Jim Bob. Not even named in the subs.

Jim Bob only playing football with Galbally this year. Hasnā€™t trained/featured for the Bouncers at all.

Retired

Ah heā€™s not, is he? A real pity if he is finished up with hurling at such a young age.

I forget the reasoning but possibly heā€™d a child recently or it was just really busy with family but heā€™s defo finished.

He has been playing adult hurling with them since he was maybe 16 or 17. Fair play.

Sad to see him finish up though. MOTM in the 2013 Munster final.

He played in 05

I remember we played Galbally in football yonks ago. Jim Bob was midfield he must have only been 16, he is the wan age with myself so I was in the stand looking on with awe as he was blowing lads out of his way as a child. He came out of the womb a fully formed man. Awful shame if he has knocked the hurling on the head, but football was always his first love funnily enough. Maybe as a Galbally man that influences it.
An awful shame he didnā€™t stay with the seniors one more year and get his medal. What a warrior and what a servant to club and county
