Limerick GAA 2023 - League champions means nothing now šŸ

They are all cracked out there and heā€™s a right wing catholic zealot so it probably wasnā€™t a good match. Heā€™d be a much easier bedfellow with the hard working protestant Croagh crowd cc @Gary_Birtles_Lovechi

Yes, itā€™d be a better fit for him alright as I donā€™t think he likes missing Mass for matches and sure isnā€™t that the same craic with some of the Protestants out on Croagh

Byrnes is the captain. Darragh Kennedy was on the minor team in 2013. Finn Hourigan in 2016 was one of the standouts from that side. Jack Nicholas 2018, was 20s 2020/2021, heā€™s a serious hurler.

Theyā€™ve had a few on recent minor panels too, although maybe not starters- Killian Quaid, Euan Sheridan, Mikey Ryan. There is definitely ability there.

Hourigan & Sheridan have been injured.

Heā€™ll need more than his Doon bating cap. Heā€™ll have more to worry about than the locals.
How will I spot you @balbec? Will you be wearing your maciejĆ³wka?

He isnā€™t very east Limerick

Iā€™ll be wearing green and white tackies and have a few kids with me. Iā€™ll be with the Kilmallock ultras.

A list of attacks on tfk of thelimericks. Still cant stop us

Doon 1-10 Adare 1-06
Blackrock 1-13 Bouncers 0-09

HT in both.

Bouncers struggling massively

Half-time in Claughaun: Adare 1-6 Doon 1-10.

Adare rushed into an early lead, 1-4 to 0-1. John Fitz pulled his hamstring while scoring the goal. But, from then on, it has been a tactical masterclass from Quilty and Doon. They utterly dismantled Adareā€™s puckouts; at one point they won 9 in a row and just kept scoring.

Adare canā€™t get out and Doon have isolated Pat Simon inside. Heā€™s not even been direct but he has a handy 1-3 got. Patrick Cummins working very hard, has set up a lot. DOD has been excellent, getting on lots and lots of breaks. Young Kevin Maher has got 0-2.

Adare didnā€™t score a point from play until 31 mins, all Willie frees.

One slightly controversial moment, Wayne claimed he was struck in the head by DOD while striking, Patsy didnā€™t see it.

Proper order, pal.

Full-time: Doon 1-20 Adare 1-13.

Although the Adare fans got a little excited after their good start, this result was never in doubt. Doon were better set-up than Adare, have better players than Adare and were just more ruthless/clinical.

A stat will sum up the game really is that Willie Griffin scored 0-12 from frees of Adareā€™s total of 1-13. The score from play was 1-18 to 1-1. Now, part of that was because Doon fouled when there was even a hint of a chance of a goal but I thought Mike Sexton gave Adare a few soft enough ones too. Still, maybe Doon were smart in just not allowing Adare build any sort of flow.

Big crowd in again this evening and there was plenty of roaring & shouting but I donā€™t think anybody really believed Adare were going to win tbh.

For Adare, they just really really struggled on their own puckout. They couldnā€™t get out. And then youā€™d really have to wonder, could they not have pushed Declan Hannon up into the forwards? Doon completely bypassed him, they didnā€™t a ball near him; they took shots from outside, ran down the wings or played the ball over into the corners if he had pushed up. And they stepped right up on him to not allow him take a short puckout. So, basically, he wasnā€™t getting on ball at centre-back so why persist with him there when you are crying out for a ballwinner and/or a scorer in attack? In my eyes, itā€™s madness, itā€™s keeping the score down at absolute best, rather than trying to win the game.

Now, Adare were unlucky to lose John Fitz so early as he scored a goal. Heā€™d be one of their main scoring threats. Willie, in fairness to him, tried hard and won a few frees. Shane Heffernan got their only point from play but was largely ineffective. Charlie McCarthy tried hard but doesnā€™t have the raw pace to get away as a corner-forward; to me, heā€™s way more suited to the wing. David Oā€™Mahony was probably the best of the rest again but got nowhere near as much ball tonight.

This was all about Doon really, the game was played on their terms. Things coming together nicely, I think. Eddie Stokes & Adam English still injured, no Jack Ryan or Cian Oā€™Donovan either. But still looked a class above Adare.

Dean Coleman hit 1-6 from play last week against Na Piarsaigh; tonight it was Pat Simon hitting the big scores. The fact that they have those options while missing 3 starting forwards is good. Barry Murphy is just class, he just glides along, makes it look so easy. Has a serious level of physicality aswell despite looking slight enough. For one puckout, he absolutely blew Joe Sweeney out of it and won the 50/50.

Kevin Maher is an absolute monster of a young fella. Heā€™s only 17/18 but the sheer size of him. Played very well tonight, got his few scores but also won some amount of breaking ball. Patrick Cummins aswell, donā€™t think he scored but, again, worked his socks. Invaluable to have that.

DOD is obviously class. Scored an unbelievable sideline in the second half in front of the crowd. The Adare crowd were baying for his blood in the first half when he struck and Wayne went down. It was right in front of the crowd and Adare wanted a red card. I didnā€™t actually see it, was following the ball, Wayne definitely had a cut on his face. Patsy Coffey, as linesman, and Mike Sexton as ref, didnā€™t see it, so what could they do? There was definitely contact made, I was informed by a neutral that there wasnā€™t really much in it and a yellow would have been fair. There were some words between Darragh and some Adare supporters aswell which was interesting.

Richie English drove 2 points over from centre-back, a big performance from him, put in an unbelievable dispossession at one point when it looked like Adare might get in for a goal, hurley over the shoulder to flick the ball away perfectly just at the right moment as the forward played it. A joy to watch that kind of defending. Tommy Hayes was superb inside in the full-back line, and Jack Cummins also did well. He was perhaps targeted a bit by Adare but he responded in spades, won a lot of 50/50 ball. They have big Josh Ryan as the other wing-back, and itā€™s good to see him galloping forward, although didnā€™t actually get on the scoresheet tonight, he did set up a fair few.

Pat Ryan was the real dangerman and hit 1-5 from play. At the same time, I didnā€™t think he was direct at all and I thought he had Jody Hannon in real bother. He could have had 3 or 4 goals if he had put the head down. 1-5 isnā€™t bad at all anyway, heā€™s a real handful. His movement is good and the deliveries from the likes of DOD are top-notch. 1-5 from Simon, 0-3 for Darragh including the sideline, 0-5 for Murphy, 3 from play, 0-2 from Richie, 0-2 for Coleman, 0-2 for Maher. Gareth Thomas got 0-1 too. Nice spread of scorers, and a few big players to return.

Only used the one sub too, John Hayes, so obviously have an eye on the Junior A aswell. Not great for the Askeaton boys who play them on Sunday. Big Bob Purcell, Stapleton, Barry, Simon eile, Diarmuid Cummins- none of them were burned. Theyā€™ll cause bother at that level too.

They look very well-organised, their puckout setup is top, top class as youā€™d expect from Jimmy. Theyā€™ll need everyone back and no red cards if they want to beat a Na Piarsaigh or Kilmallock in a knockout match. @balbec has his cap ready.
