I donāt think that comment is worth engaging with to be honest with you.
He has been incredibly consistent.
Canāt remember him ever missing many games through injury since he made his debut in 2011 either.
Just exceptional calmness and composure, very skilful, fabulous first touch and beautiful striker of the ball.
Which of the following do you think heās better than:
Quaid
Finn
Nash
Lynch
Hayes
Hago
Gillane
Nash, Quaid, Hayes, Gillane
Since 2017: comfortably all of them bar Finn and Lynch and Quaid. Crucially, Hannon is far more influential in the team than Finn over that period for me. Quaid matches him for consistency and high performance, and influence too arguably now I think about it. Nash doesnāt have the body of work yet. Hayes, Hego and Gillane are not as consistent over six seasons, and I donāt think they have had the same level of influence on the team over those years, despite all their respective obviously stellar matches.
Hannon came out with ball after ball at the end against Kilkenny. That is greatness and leadership. Too much weighs on score tallies and slickness level these days, Hannon was so important in that win against Kilkenny.
The same agin Galway and Clare.
Hannon is there every time the fat is in the fire. Go back and watch the end of the 2018 Semi v Cork. Cramping and clearly carrying a knock he was fucking immense.
2020 Munster Final, All Ireland Semi Final and All Ireland Final were his 3 best games that year. The 3 most important games.
2021 after a poor 1st half v Tipp he was outstanding 2nd half. He was brilliant in the final v Cork.
2022 his best season yet. When we needed him the most he took control v Clare in the closing stages. Same v Galway when we were under pressure. Same v Kilkenny in the final.
Every time we need someone to step up and lead, Hannon leads.
His scoring record in finals is also very impressive.
Howeverā¦there is only going to be one GOAT when the Greatness of this side is finally recorded, and that is Cian Lynch. By the time he has finished playing it wonāt even be up for discussion.
And by the way ye can bookmark this for 10 years time
This Limerick team will out do the brilliant Kilkenny side and will be the Greatest Team of All Time by the time they finish, with Cian Lynch regarded as the Greatest Hurler of All Time.
Iād be more surprised if this doesnāt happen. Nothing to stop them. No team coming of any note. And they are incredibly driven and remarkably consistent. In ten years thereāll be no doubt but astute hurling men like ourselves already know it to be true.
The only thing that could stop them is injuries.
Interestingly, the only current Limerick player with GOAT status already secured is the great Sean Finn. The greatest corner back to ever play the game. Wrapped up by the age of 26. Phenomenal.
Centre back at county level suits him better than at club. I never see him stand out for Adare back there or dominate.
He has been immense for Limerick imo.
A player like Hannon would surely be more valuable to them in the forwards
Adare should be playing Hannon at 11
To be fair Hannon has generally been 11 for Adare for the last few seasons, with Connolly at 6. Was surprised when they shifted Hannon back this year.
A bit like Hego for Pats, itās too easy to dilute his influence when heās centre back. Better off to have them down at the other end of the field where they can hurt the opposition.
A rising tide lifts all boats.
Fuck me, the inter county season barely over a month and the Mickey measuring starts. A long winter lies ahead.
.
Hannon > everyone else
Donāt know (or particularly care) of Hannon is the goat in terms of Limerick but what he is is a text book of a player who has been given a specific role and he has carried that out pretty flawlessly since 2018. It is quite obvious that he has taken on board what is expected of it and sticks to the plan regardless.
Itās a ridiculous article,
Thereās no way Hannon is Limericks best ever, itās ridiculous to suggest
And , Cregan isnāt even mentioned in the article, heās twice the player Hannon or Carey or Kirby ever were
