An awful game in the Bog Garden, a dour draw but it worked out in the end for us, with a little bit of luck.
Kinda panned out as expected, we’re not mature or experienced enough yet to do well against teams who sit in, we try to force things a little too much and played into Ballysteen’s hands.
Got re-organised at half-time and started doing the things that we should have been doing all along. Put pressure on the kickout and grew into the game. Went ahead but after Pakie Moran got sent off, Ballysteen actually pushed on again, David Shaughnessy kicked a couple of good points.
We levelled with a free but then missed a free to win it so it ended with a bit of an anticlimax but a last-minute goal for Ballylanders put us through, knocking out Gaels.
A bad game to watch but we’ll learn from it. A quarter-final likely to be a lot more open.
Senior hurling quarter-finalists and now senior football quarter-finalists too, in our first ever season at the grade. The only team, including those with sister clubs, that can say that so a good outing.
