How did the Dow go today?
The frees didnāt go over today but the puckouts were excellent. Surely his name is in the hat for senior goalie next year.
Welcome to two weeks ago.
It hardly took them 2 weeks to complete the run?
Thought his puckouts were good, he found both his half backs with a lot of clean uncontested ball, especially in the first half, though Croagh were naive in allowing Dempsey in particular too much space at puckouts. The Dow wasnāt tested by C/K at all, bar the one time Declan Mullane blocked him down. It really should have been a goal, but Mullane opted to try play hockey with the ball on the end line, instead of picking it up.
Thought he would have gone for the score with a couple of long range frees, but opted to play them up the line to James Daly. He didnāt have to worry about high balls in on top of him on Sunday, but the other two times I saw him this year, his fielding of them was as good as any inter county keeper. The Dow will give Condon plenty of competition for Nap senior keeper next year, of that you can be sure.
Conversing with a couple of my fellow parishioners about where Sundayās defeat leaves Croagh/Kilfinny. I donāt have any fear that it will knock the boys confidence, theyāre a young team (average age 23) and suffered similar heartbreak in Junior semi finals in 2018 and 2019. Not sure if Seamus Hickey will continue on for another year, heāll be 35 by the time next August rolls around. Would be a big loss to C/K, his high fielding of ball is exceptional and chips in with 2-3 points almost every game. The frees he wins indirectly contribute to another 3-4 points. We missed that badly on Sunday when he went off early, hearing he went into the game with a virus and had been sick before the game. His leadership and communication on the field is massive.
Jack Lenihan has been our star player the last three seasons, but he had much less impact this year. Injured for the first half of the season, he didnāt look the same player when he came back. He had our first three shots at goal on Sunday and they all went wide, the Jack of last year would have put them all over. It just hasnāt been sticking for him this year, and itās hard to know is it down to the long layoff from injury or something else. Itās not a lack of application as the lads have been killing each other in training. Hope he can regain his form for 2023 as heās the best in the business at this grade when heās on song. Finally, Croagh need to score some goals, it is I believe our Achilles heel. If you disavow the Kilmallock game (where we hit the net four times), we scored only 1 goal in 7 championship games this year. Not scoring goals is fine, if like the Limerick seniors, you are guaranteed to score 25 points or more from distance each game. But as we rarely score more than 20 points, we really need to learn the art of goal scoring if weāre gonna topple the big teams at the business end of the season.
Next year youāll have a resurgent Murroe/Boher as well as Granagh/Ballingarry and Bruree. Croom wonāt be far away. Not to mention relegated Knockainey whoāll be smarting from a very poor season at Premier. Iād also expect Feohanagh to be knocking on the door if they can keep Seamie Fla fit for the whole campaign. Another hard slog for all teams involved, with probably no one outstanding team like Nap this season or Effin last year. Iād expect St Kierans to give a better account of themselves than Caherline did this year.
Will Lofty stay in charge or is he gone now that heās taking the Limerick minors?
Itās a very attractive job for any manager, a load of talent there.
I do think Hickey was a massive loss; his ballwinning, work rate and ability to tag on a few scores has been huge this year for ye. Heās a fit fella, I think heās got plenty left in the tank.
Youāre obessed with Limerick. Its very cute tbf, if youāre good santy will bring you a Limerick jersey this year
One of the lesser pawns sent out first.
How much money in did they generate is the question hereā¦ We had to send the big guns over to the states with the cap out. Other counties might feel itās beneath them to fundraise but our boys, as always, are willing to go the extra mile, what with them being an extremely humble group.
I just hope theyāve set something aside for the future.
Bigger caps?
Very poor stuff so far youād have to say.
I was expecting the heavy hitters like @TreatyStones @Bod95 @iron_mike to be first up at the crease.
Ah stop. With that sort of military nous, youād never have gotten near the Mulliance top table.
Singlehandedly raising the economy.
Two million is nothing in Limerick GAA. The Dow would raise that over a weekend over in the states.
Only problem is heāll want Nickys spot in return.
