Byrnes hit anything beyond 60 yards anyway even with gillane playing. Its not a big problem

It’s a massive problem surely given gillane is arguably the best in the country at them and even better under pressure in the big games.

Even in games where he wasn’t playing well in general play he was brilliant on the frees.

There’s a massive difference between very good at frees and being at gillanes incredible level. To say they are as good as gillane is complete rubbish to be honest.

Any of those you’ve mentioned bar maybe o neill would be a huge drop off and o neill is unproven too.

Gillane isn’t even elite on frees man, nearly every county has a man better on frees than him.

His style is pure erratic

Agreed, Horgan, TJ and Bennett are more consistent than him, I would have him at the same level as Kelly with regards to frees. A top free taker doesn’t need someone else to hit the long ones beyond their own 65.
