Limerick GAA 2024-25

Think Harrington is gone now.

Casey has made the cut; he’s impressed so far. I really rate him. Not spectacular but solid out.

Draw for the footballers vs Longford would say to me ya’s are in decent form in the early stages. Longford after been taken over by Solan who was involved at Arsenal and Mayo surely has his eyes on the managers job at Mayo. Our lads buoyed by the win over London, I’d fancy it to be a decent game on Sunday?

It was Barry Solan who was in Arsenal. His brother Mike is who you are on about. You hardly thought a fella working with Arsenal was going to come home and take over Longford?

I just thought his role was finished, and he’s back home.

Barry is a good lad, I wouldnt wish Longford on him.

Outside of Coughlan who they position as the back up 7, would any of the younger players be close to competing with Byrnes for the 5 jersey? How far away do you think the likes of Hurley, Scully are etc from that level?

Realistically, anyone in their first year on the panel isn’t getting anywhere near a Championship start… even freakishly good players like Adam & SOB weren’t even on a 26 in their first season.

Scully is looking at next year at the earliest.

You’d be hoping that Hurley will see more decent gametime this year. Himself & Langan were there last year, Hurley’s a big strong lad with plenty of hurling, he probably needs to push more this year. As for pushing Byrnes… they’d want to be going very well to overtake him.

CON is more likely, you would think, if Byrnes’ form wasn’t there.

Also @manbehindthewire or someone; do you know if there was a big push to have the leagues start earlier this year?

Seems really unnecessary to have them starting the first weekend in March. Few people in different clubs I spoke to were hoping that they’d be pushed the other way; to a mid-April start or so.

I don’t think they see Coughlan as a real solution at 7 either.

If they needed to change at hb, they’d move from elsewhere, CON, DOD, Nash, Dan

Didn’t Coughlan start for Byrnes agin Tipp in a round robin a few years ago?

Paddy O’Loughlin did.

Colin came on in 2023 a few times, don’t think he has a Championship start.

I heard the football comittee asked that the football league not start until after Paddys day. Spike wanted to start it late Feb. They compromised by doing what Spike wanted.

Same weekend as last year AFAIK, but I agree, no need to start this early.

The hurling didn’t start until the first weekend in April last year; this year it’s Paddy’s weekend.

Have the league fixtures been released/updated anywhere?

Edit - I see they’re on the website. Seems a bit mad some teams will be finished the league 3 months before championship starts.

I wouldn’t say a big push but they need to start this early if they want 6 team groups. The hurling county league finals are down for 2 weeks before the start of the football championship. You cant have them any closer than that really.
I’m not sure how you resolve it to be honest, it’s not easy for dual clubs I know that though!

I would’ve thought Limerick would have beaten Longford in the big ball.

I see that cowboy Evan Talty (iGaelicCoach) is on their management team. He gets around

Why is he a cowboy?

I see that but I do think they’ve gone too early with the first round of the football.

It kinda fucks with the very basis of the split season if we end up having to move it because Limerick are still in the football Championship.

The form of Adam English probably means we can move CON back into half backline if needed.

Still think Hannon if he gets better protection can be the 6 this year

DOD and Casey back bring much better balance to team.

It is too early but if they didn’t go the week earlier teams would only have one week before Munster if don’t make the Hurling final.
