Ref gave them a fair few catchup frees in second quarter - some of them were baffling, but cork definitely upped workrate after coming out cold
WOD was immense throughout - probably motm after Gillane
the Bull wasnāt as quiet as I thought, won scorable frees, made a few assists and took a nice point. Spilled a couple of balls when out in front which Joyce cleaned up. Definitely more in him
AOC struggled to get into game, not sure the real physical stuff suits him in middle 8
David Reidy probably the quietest of the forwards, heās not troubling the scoreboard enough to start in this team imo. O Leary was well on top of him as he was last year
Lots of positives from the game. Only the league etc etc but nonetheless good to win a close enough battle against cork, something we fell down on in the last few closer encounters. Them in PUC are a different animal so we will need to be really careful with their speed etc. But itās good to see we havenāt gone away.
CON, Byrnes, Finn, Will I was delighted all played well. Finn looked back to his imperious best at times. Hego roared into it towards the end. Also itās good to see we can still win with both Kyle and Cian not fully at it. From the bench there were some decent impacts, DOD his usual reliable self in midfield. Nice cameo from Hurley too
I thought Cork a little naive leaving acres of space infront of Gillane and OāBrien, it was very noticeable in the first half in particular. OāLeary should have been the extra man sitting deep behind Rob Downey. Following Reidy out the field actually played into Limerickās hands.
Iād be very happy as well but things can change quickly.
Weād the wind in the opening half v cork last year in the round robin and beat them up a stick. Similarly to yesterday I think it seriously exposes their defensive system. Cork have two huge games coming up in the next two and a half weeks.
I watched the minor footballers last night; they were a bit unlucky in the end- ended up losing by a point.
They showed good spirit but didnāt make life easy for themselves; they must have given away 3 scoreable frees for touching the ball on the ground; didnāt make the most of Clare being down to 14 and then got a black card themselves.
I would have said Casey is nailed-on to start Championship but Reidyās performance at the weekend does make me think he could potentially start somewhere now.
He was a level above SOB & Aido on the day; albeit they have had very good leagues so far.
Competition in the front 8 will be huge; very hard to leave DOD & Casey off too.
