Limerick GAA 2026

On second viewing of the game -

  • Ref gave them a fair few catchup frees in second quarter - some of them were baffling, but cork definitely upped workrate after coming out cold

  • WOD was immense throughout - probably motm after Gillane

  • the Bull wasn’t as quiet as I thought, won scorable frees, made a few assists and took a nice point. Spilled a couple of balls when out in front which Joyce cleaned up. Definitely more in him

  • AOC struggled to get into game, not sure the real physical stuff suits him in middle 8

  • David Reidy probably the quietest of the forwards, he’s not troubling the scoreboard enough to start in this team imo. O Leary was well on top of him as he was last year

It would if you didnt have to pay the tax on it, which probably makes sense why he only handed over €50 when you think about it.

You fucking fanny

Lots of positives from the game. Only the league etc etc but nonetheless good to win a close enough battle against cork, something we fell down on in the last few closer encounters. Them in PUC are a different animal so we will need to be really careful with their speed etc. But it’s good to see we haven’t gone away.

CON, Byrnes, Finn, Will I was delighted all played well. Finn looked back to his imperious best at times. Hego roared into it towards the end. Also it’s good to see we can still win with both Kyle and Cian not fully at it. From the bench there were some decent impacts, DOD his usual reliable self in midfield. Nice cameo from Hurley too

I thought Cork a little naive leaving acres of space infront of Gillane and O’Brien, it was very noticeable in the first half in particular. O’Leary should have been the extra man sitting deep behind Rob Downey. Following Reidy out the field actually played into Limerick’s hands.

I’d be very happy as well but things can change quickly.

We’d the wind in the opening half v cork last year in the round robin and beat them up a stick. Similarly to yesterday I think it seriously exposes their defensive system. Cork have two huge games coming up in the next two and a half weeks.

I think we will need to make improvements also - Cork will be better set up next day

Joyce on Gillane, Rob D sitting deeper to offer protection
And they will have a more functional half forward line for puck outs.

I also think Dan M is a better matchup for Hayes than Casey, but Mike is playing well.

Was it 3 or 4 years ago Casey was in right bother from Jake morris out in Thurles?

He’s back playing excellent stuff again. He never lets you down.

I watched the minor footballers last night; they were a bit unlucky in the end- ended up losing by a point.

They showed good spirit but didn’t make life easy for themselves; they must have given away 3 scoreable frees for touching the ball on the ground; didn’t make the most of Clare being down to 14 and then got a black card themselves.

They do look fairly decent though.

Yeah - with Joyce in fullback line lynch at 11 would cause them headaches - they like the matchup of TOC or TOM following him at midfield

And we must get someone more dangerous than Reidy at 15. NOL has him in his pocket

I think the oceans of space Gillane had to operate in was job done for Reidy.

Did NOL beat Reidy to any ball at the weekend?

I would have said Casey is nailed-on to start Championship but Reidy’s performance at the weekend does make me think he could potentially start somewhere now.

He was a level above SOB & Aido on the day; albeit they have had very good leagues so far.

Competition in the front 8 will be huge; very hard to leave DOD & Casey off too.

Think @LionelRitchie said Casey looked uncomfortable at full back but I didn’t see it at all. Massively underrated player in my opinion.

I think Mike played well but Dan definitely matches up better against Hayes than anybody else we have, if he’s right.

Again, going to be a tough call to make, same as in the front 8.

Wonder would Tom be considered an option for the 15 role also, now that we are well positioned at 10 and 12

No.

Hard to see Peter being fit for so many games in quick succession- he needs to be minded

How did Murphy go?

I think we’ll need him at half-forward tbh. He would have been some asset to introduce at the weekend.
