Byrnes is a loss- he’s big, strong, athletic, good in the air and a real leader in the team. Against Clare in particular, who are not blessed with aerial ability or height, he could have been a real asset.
But you couldn’t say he played anywhere near his potential so far this year. His use of the ball has been terrible and that, from him and others, is part of the reason why our forwards haven’t flourished.
But he is a loss, he’s better than the alternatives and he’s the type of player who’d step it up for the big day.
On another note, I do think it’s a pity that Colin Ryan hasn’t worked himself into contention. I think he’s a fine hurler and would cause any team problems.

Mulcahy for Nash is what I am hearing
Hegarty, Dempsey, dowling, Graeme, hayes and cian lynch the starting forwards at the moment.
Would they not give Casey or Nash a run instead of the two mulcahys?
