Limerick GAA - Box Office

Yes I was talking to a few of the lads and a selector. Fyi there’s fuck all drinkers left on that panel. Even the youth in the general these days do fuck all drinking.

Well would yo ever tell them to go and have a few pints together and to get to know one another and play like a team.
Oh and the selector you were talking to … I hope you passed on TFK’s considered thoughts on their team selection.

Spot on,when Lynch turned it on for that spell the rest of the players around him came to life.

And then Clare decided to mark the shit out of him. That, combined with foolish hurling from Lynch, stopped the Limerick team from making an impact. He is getting far too much flak from supporters and whilst I would agree that he needs the occasional kick in the hole, he is one of our best hurlers.

In my opinion 5 players should be on the chopping block.
Quaid: I watched him yesterday and he just does not communicate with his backs. A natural goalkeeper will do that all the time and if another goalkeeper was there, McCarthy might have made one run out but not after that. I don’t know what he can offer out the field but it puts paid to the notion of bringing an outfield club player into goals for senior championship.
McCarthy: No need to add anything. He was a disaster yesterday.
Hickey: Tries too hard to do something that he will be remembered for during a game and so fucks up almost everything he does. Spends more time on the ground than he does on his feet.
Dowling: The only way, and I mean the only way, I would keep him is to give him a very last chance at full forward. If he didn’t shine there, then he simply has to go.
J Ryan: I said it a while back that the captain of any team should be a nailed on certainty to start. This is not the case and he no longer has the legs for the midfield.

There are some good things to take from the debacle against Claire. Hayes did well when moved out and although at fault for one goal I wouldn’t hold that against the lad. Dempsey played well. Finn had a brilliant game and I’m genuinely delighted that Hannon seems to have found a position where his undoubted skills will shine.

The biggest thing is this, all the money from all the sugar daddies in the fucking world won’t win an All-Ireland when the money is under the control of cunts, the like of which we have in abundance in Limerick at the top table. As for Kiely, a better hurling man you could hardly meet and for his sake alone I hope we can turn it around. I can only hope though because I don’t think we will. Our goal at the start of the year should have been all out to get out of 1B and to have as good a crack at championship as possible. Shefflin mentioned it on the Sunday Game and Limerick has suffered badly since we rolled over and allowed ourselves to be forced to stay in 1B.

The real change needs to happen at the top table, full of incompetents interested only in their place in one of the red seats. Cunts.

At least they won’t have to turn the floodlights on.

Or the lights in the toilets.

What would we make of this?

Was I?

One thing people need to realise is it took 2 years in 2011 and 2012 to build for our decent showings in 2013 and 14. Rome wasn’t built in a day and people calling for every lad to be dropped don’t understand team sports. If kiely dropped hickey, mccarthy and ryan there’d be uproar from the clubs he’d be isolating himself and heaping the pressure on the younger generation who’d be savaged by the “fans” if things went badly. He needs the older heads to keep alongside them phase them out over time and use their experience to benefit younger players.

Quaid - this was his first really bad game for limerick. Some of those mistakes were uncharacteristic. 2 goals were easily avoidable but their was plenty of others who made mistakes in the build up. McNammara will replace him in due course.

Finn - had a fine game and was rewarded for very good performances in training which is great to hear. Too long too many players held their places in the side on rep.

McCarthy - v poor and made such silly mistakes for a player of his experience. Silly runs, out of position and poor in possession. Some of things are very easily rectified but you could say the same about a lot of his mistakes for the last two years.

Casey - got a roasting. Very naive in his marking of o donnell. Will need to learn a lot from this.

Morrissey - has been in around the panel for 4 years now and has never nailed down a position on the team. Time to move on.

Hannon - Done ok and seemed fired up and aggressive. Bigger tests a wait.

Hickey - better than anything he has produced in 2015 and 2016. Still tries things that are clearly not on.

Browne - back to his industrious self. Fit and strong. Didn’t like his reaction at the end of the game all the same.

Ryan - legs are gone imo. Strange choice as captain. Great servant.

Dowling - being carried for frees. Offered nothing from general player.

D Dempsey - Done ok. Scored 1-1 and had a few other decent moments. Needs to up his work rate considerably and makes some infuriating decisions at times.

C. Lynch - Our key player. He hurled for 15 minutes and we looked like a proper team. We could get 50 minutes from him it would be great.

G Mul - Looks to have lost all form and confidence. No wonder after the god awful ball he’s been dealing it.

K. hayes - Excellent. He’d a nervous first 20 minutes but settled into it very well. Constantly works his socks off. Best moment of the game was when he was being hassled by 3 clare defenders and still had the presence of mind and skill to find paul browne to set up a score.

P. Casey - Very game and scored one great point. He’ll get there in time but needs good ball.

Going forward:

Quaid
R. English, R. McCarthy and Finn or Condon, English and Finn.
Brynes, Hannon and Hickey
Browne and O Donovan
Hegarty, Lynch and Hayes
C. Ryan, Nash and P. Casey

So many of our mistakes are easily cut out. With Brynes and Hickey at half backs we need ball winners inside. nash and colin ryan give us this. They’re both well able to dish it out and have a nice cut to them. Hannon needs to link with cian lynch more. They are the only two that have a notion of how to deliver decent ball. Browne and O Donovan can work their socks off and carry ball from deep if we teach our defenders how to give a decent short ball. Hegarty and Hayes can close down half backs and give us great options for puckouts. They should also set the tone for the rest of the forwards. Work rate is key. Nash and Casey are scoring forwards and given the ball will do damage. Hayes and Lynch likewise are good for a few points. While Colin Ryan has a happy knack of winning frees.

Kiely has laid it down to the likes of colin ryan, O Donovan, english, the two ryans etc that if your work had and perform in the challenge games like finn and hayes you’ll get a chance.

It will take time but we will eventually get there.

It’s early days for Kiely. Clare reverted to some of davys tactics while we reverted to tjs game plan of having none and hitting long aimless balls and doing generally stupid stuff for no apparent reason.

Lovely.

I’d agree with pretty much all of that and your team is pretty much what I’d pick. With English at full-back, and Condon in the corner.

I’ve always liked Richie, but you can’t be at fault for that many scores and hold onto your position. Put English at full-back and bring Condon back in. Condon is another who loves to hurl, probably a bit too much, but at least he’s got a bit of edge to his play; he gets rightly stuck in to his opposite number.

Quaid was poor, but it’s puckouts that are the big issue and they actually weren’t so bad. He is normally very safe at the very least, and was uncharacteristically poor in that regard. He is still better than Hennessey, and McNamara isn’t even on the panel so I’d keep him for now.

I’d love to see Colin Ryan inside. While I’d be lenient enough on Mulcahy, there is really no point in him being there the way we’ve been playing. Ryan will fight for everything and is probably the best player under a high ball in the county.

I’d prefer O’Donovan to Pat Ryan but I wouldn’t be surprised reverted back to William O’Donoghue.

Obviously free-taking is the other issue, I presume you’d have Casey on the frees. I don’t see Dowling being dropped personally. Maybe Kiely will prove me wrong.

Lynch needs to perform for a full 70, he’s got all the talent in the world.

What did Browne do after the game??

Fair said. Just one thing, it would be great if you could stop saying so and so has a bit of cut about him. Entirely not your fault but there is one particularly thick godhelpus of a poster on here who has picked this phrase up off you taken to parroting this line in every post of his on this thread and it’s become tired.

He was smiling and chatting to some Clare chap as he shook hands with him at the end.

No fear of him saying it about any of your crowd anyway.

Outstanding post.

Would agree with that nearly word for word.

Was fairly despondent in the immediate aftermath but we’ve been a mess since the semi final since 2014 so it was always going to be a radical overhaul needed - Kiely has been only there a few months. Has to be given time to put his stamp on things. Expected better from us on Sunday but not going to crucify him at this juncture.

A few excellent servants need to call time - or have it called for them - but the replacements aren’t exactly beating down the door at the moment to demand inclusion.

Our forward play has been underwhelming all year. Revert to hit and hope more often than not. Annoying because more often than not we’re gobbled up in the physical stakes but we have potentially decent inside forwards who could prosper given the right service. Had hoped Kinnerk would have rectified this issue which has been ongoing for years.

Almost before the final whistle was gone.

Tbf p casey can mix it.
