Jamie’s is a grandson of Tom McGarry. Raised in Caherdavin. Always showed serious ability but could never get him to settle.
Serious hands, feet, pace, speed and serious ability and passion on the field. Problem was we couldn’t get him down training. GAA, soccer, rugby, everybody was pulling out of him and he never settled seriously into any. Once he got to 15/16 the soccer boys dragged him all over town. Always talks of trials that never happened. We’d get him back for a game or two but then he’d be gone again.
He got on the Munster development squad and I thought that would settle him but it didn’t happen there either.
Glad to see him back with Grandads Claughan kicking the big ball. He’s been there a few years now. Best of luck to him, he’s a lovely fellow but our paths haven’t crossed in years.
He is a serious talent. Being on the Limerick panel three years ago and not being on it now when he’s playing the best football of his life, would be typical McGarry.
