Limerick GAA - Fuck bogball

Bateman in the corner also a McGarry

Correct

They used to have a knack for ‘borrowing’ CIE buses when celebrating big championship wins also.

Colm McSweeney is a serious footballer lads.

Going back a good few generations, grandfather, even great grandfather possibly, they were always brilliant all round talented sports people seemingly.

One of the older lads, Tom or Pat is out in Drom now I think?

They were a great handball family . There was a great handball tradition around Thonondgate . Has that died out ??

Possibly. Although you are asking the wrong guy given I haven’t lived in Limerick in 20 years at this stage. Me auld heart is still there however

The alley was bulldozed 30 years ago. Built houses on the site.

I think there was a club there - Saint Munchin’s ??? The Hackett’s the barber family were involved in a big way .

Just did a google of handball clubs in Limerick, along with the usual suspects I came up with this.

Anybody know where they play out of? Pretty sure there was an alley opened in Southill during the regeneration but have heard nothing of it since.

There was an alley in the community centre in South Hill and another one in the CIE club in careys Road dont know if there still opened

The CIE one is closed years and years. Used play there myself. Like I said the Southill one was only opened during the regeneration, but I’ve heard nothing since. Just wondered if the Modhscoil were using it.

Be interesting to find out you don’t here of many fellas in the city playing handball anymore… well I havent anyway

My bit of research today tell me that the Modhscoil is the primary Model School on O’Connell Avenue. They have two small outdoor alleys out the back. I wouldn’t hold out much hope for the Southill one either based on this:

Google maps seems to tell me that the alleys in St. Munchin’s are now an all weather pitch if I remember their location correctly.

So that’s it for handball in Limerick City now.
