Limerick GAA - Fuck bogball

There’s an alley up on the Hill of Kilmallock. Really just the remaining wall and floor of an old limekiln. Kilmallock rules apply.

There was talks of a club being set up a few years ago. There used to be a court in the grounds of the Tech years ago.

go on…

Old army rules, you could kick the ball if you couldn’t reach down low enough to hit it with your hand.

No line markings, once the ball landed on the floor it was in. Also the wall wasn’t straight so the ball could fly off in any direction.

Squash courts only.

There used to be 2 fine outdoor courts at the Salesian College in Pallaskenry.

Still is, or was last year anyway. Great spot to puck a ball

Handball is a super sport for fitness, agility, speed and, obviously, eye/hand co-ordination.

A bit surprising more intercounty or even club players don’t play it. There was a great tradition of it out our way but sadly it has drifted away since a few of the stalwarts who drove it on passed away.

Outdoor , about 40 x 30 I’D say . I enquired about availability but was knocked on insurance issues .

There’s a big move to bring back ball walls at clubs now the GAA should try and push them to build handball alleys instead.

I would think handball would be very hard to get going . The hurling walls are a great concept .

Just give them a grant to make them suitable for handball outdoors like

You can see the handball skills with DJ and Richie Hogan

There was a fella used hurl with us in the 90s who used to play handball if he got turned onto his bad side or bottled up or whatever he’d just hand pass the ball 50 yards down the field instead

The GAA are big into the one wall handball thing, think there’s grants for that. They’re generally indoor

They’re still there alright. We used to play a bit of handball in school but they’re mainly used as a ball wall for hurling teams now.

But they are used.

It’s a little known fact that my 11 year old daughter is a reigning Munster champion at handball, handball is a big deal in her school

The One Wall handball is an American game but very suitable for schools starting up as basically you only need one wall. Getting more popular over here now.
