Limerick GAA, Still Getting Knocked Down

Gutsy performance from Limerick holding off Kerry at the death.

They were 1-11 to 2 points up and stopped playing, credit to Kerry they never stopped and chipped away all through the second half with the gale force wind.Break is coming at the right time would like to see a full 70 minute effort in Tullamore in 2 weeks time.

Excuse me??

Great to see Nicky Quaid walking up to collect the cup in Killarney

Not really.

Sorry I mixed you up with the break balls gimp.

You have eyes but cannot see my little friend. The display today proved my point exactly. Blew them away 1-16 to 0-4 approaching Half Time and we clocked off. In terrible conditions coasting on first gear. Clocked off because it was Game over. Kerry did a lovely job of tidying up the scoreboard. The result was never ever in doubt.

If we had given lads a chance there today it would have been far more beneficial and we still would have coasted to victory.

Anyway, in true Limerick fashion John Riordan, Kieran O’Rourke and Mikey Reidy have all been dropped from the squad. One of those players got 4 minutes in a Munster Senior League game and 10 mins in a challenge v Waterford. Other two lads similar game time. Why call them in in the first place ffs??

Limerick continue their trend of being unable to hurl for more than 30 minutes.

Terrible

That was never the score. 1-11 to 1-04

You made up a fantasy score line. We were hanging on in the end and the team you named would have lost.

OMG 4 PT GAME HOW:joy:

What’s the difference.

I’m happy enough we got the win anyway, regardless of the terrible performance in the 2nd half.

Offaly away in two weeks time is just as important as Cusack park on the 20th March - lose that and we’re fucked again. We’ve an awful record against those biffos.

Just back from Fitzgerald Stadium.

We’re at nothing lads. We won’t be getting out of 1B and won’t be doing anything of note in the championship either. Don’t delude yourself otherwise.

Game played in wretched conditions. We played with a very strong breeze in the opening half mixed with driving rain. Three of our players miscontrolled the ball in the first sixty seconds and even then I thought it was going to be one of the days.

Settled down after that, Kerry were pretty game but comfortably led 1-11 to 0-02 after about 20 mins. David Reidy (0-04) and Barry Nash (0-03) the pick of the forwards. Gavin O’Mahony set up the goal with a fine pass to Hannon (otherwise fairly anonymous from open play) who drilled home even though the 'keeper should have done better.

Kerry then hit a purple pitch and we conceded 1-03 in a row, a soft goal conceded after a high ball dropped into the square and was batted home. Bit like kilkenny’s second goal against us in the semi final in 2014. Darragh O’Donovan was hooked midway through this half and it was a desperately harsh decision. He wasn’t particularly bad and didn’t look to have picked up an injury.

1-16 to 1-05 at the interval but playing into the hurricane in the second half was always going to be difficult. Still doesn’t excuse a fairly horrific 35 minutes. We went 35 minutes of the half without a score from play before sub Seanie Tobin tapped one over as the board went up for four additional minutes. Our other two second half scores were frees. Pitiful. Totally lost all attacking shape and Kerry were far smarter in their use of the ball.

Don’t think we ever looked like losing it but a fairly demoralising second half display. The attack completely shut down. Nash, Reidy and Graeme Mul all taken off. John Fitzgibbon was introduced for O’Donovan and, God love him, had a 'mare.

Our best player was Condon. Brilliant all through. Swept up a mountain of ball all game long. The two Richie’s were solid. English made one terrific foul for a yellow card which stopped a certain goal.

We’ve major problems in the halfback line. Things haven’t improved from last year. Byrnes is solid but we (including the management) don’t have a clue who to play on the wings beside him.

We’re very frustrating as we play exceptionally well in the forward line in bursts but then collapse at other times. Last week Wexford - as bad as they were - hit us for six or seven points on the resumption. Same as the Dublin game last year in Thurles and the Waterford game in the Munster league. Never seen to stop the momentum when put to the pin of our collar.

Can’t see us beating Clare in Ennis. Never mind that, our bogey team Offaly will fancy their chances in a fortnight against us. We’re the most tactically clueless of any of the leading hurling counties. Kerry had inferior players but were very well organised and coached. They have a few nice players too, Ciaran and Rashers have done a fine job with them. Could take a few scalps this summer.

No method to the use of our subs either, the young lads always seem to be the first off while some of the sacred cows are never benched. Hate to be negative but this set up is nowhere near ruthless enough.

All in all a very disappointing display. Highlight of the day was meeting GAA legend Weeshie Fogarty in the queue for the carvery (splendid bit of lamb) in the Killarney Court Hotel before throw in. Michael Healy Rea was canvassing outside the ground too but I won’t put either in the celebrity spot thread.

Odd seanie o Brien isn’t getting a look in. Not one of those ard scoil ris graduates hurls for 70 mins ever.

He was one of the few standouts last year in the championship but can’t get a look in this year so far. Bizarre.

I’d definitely give him a run at wing back.

Offaly could very well take us in Tullamore. Bound to pick up injuries in that bloody Fitzgibbon Cup farce next weekend too.

Still came away from Killarney with a win playing very poorly going by the commentary on 95fm and your report mate.

I’m worried about facing those biffos in 2 weeks time, but still have the faith.

The fact is the man that should be managing Limerick is managing Kerry.
