4 in itâŚOffaly have scored 4 in a row.
Paul Browne has got a score to stop the rot.
Itâs 5 now.
Back to 6.
6 as Gavin scores.
Dempsey has made a couple of saves for Offaly, heâs always been a fine shot stopper.
Limerick and Clare just doing enough to get over the also rans.
Won 1-19 to 0-14. Lots of wides.
No disrespect to Laois but we will batter them next week.
I would have taken a 1 point win at 2 oclock today. Dont give a fuck about the performance
Why wouldnât you disrespect Laois mate? Cunts deserve all the abuse you can give them.
Whoever has the best scoring difference going into the last game will have the draw as a safety net on their side and that is huge.As it stands we are 2pts better off than Clare who will beat Kerry by 20-25 pts next week to ensure it,id be surprised if we beat Laois by more than 10pts.
Match report?
Just back from OâConnor Park, Tullamore.
Relieved to get the win, would have taken a scuttery one point win before throw in.
Mixed emotions coming out of it though. We won but made desperately hard work of it. Very patchy display and continuing with recent trends we disintegrated for a large portion of the second half. Lost all shape and lashed Hail Mary ball after Hail Mary ball down into the full forward line.
Pitch was in a desperate state. Hannon was magnificent at full forward, he won nearly everything that went into him. Bagged three early points from play. He has been impressive so far this year. Just leave him in full forward for the year.
Hit a lull, Offaly got a run of scores before Hannon rifled home a couple after a terrible defensive blunder. He intercepted a pass and lashed home. Tacked on a few points and led by six at the break.
Extended the lead on the resumption, game looked to be petering out before we went about 15 minutes without scoring. The catalyst for the revival was Seamus Hickey needlessly getting involved and causing a row, a handy free in to us was changed to a throw in. It lifted the home crowd and all of a sudden with about five minutes left the gap was down to four. We finished strongly with the last four points but made very heavy weather of it.
Positives
- Hannon was immense. He took a knock and was subbed with about 20 mins left. With him went our attacking fulcrum.
- Richie English was tremendous. Terrific defensive instincts. He knows when to stand his ground, he knows when to dive in. Like watching a young Damien Reale.
- Wayne Mac was summoned from the bench late on and had an excellent cameo.
Negatives
- David Reidy probably played himself out of a start in Ennis or in the championship.
- Seamus was at midfield and didnât look comfortable. Gave away about five frees, a couple of them very rash. On another day he could have got the line. He was unusually ratty and getting involved in needless spats.
- Barry OâConnell was wing back, mixed the good with the bad. In fairness he came into it in the second half and performed strongly.
Puck out strategy still a cause for grave concern. Tactically bereft again in the forward line in spells. Lynch worked very hard but tried far too many fancy flicks.
Job done but Iâm downbeat about our prospects of winning in Ennis in a fortnight.
What date is the match in ennis?
March 20th mate, this day two weeks.
Next Saturday sees a glamour double header in HQ.
- 5pm Limerick v Laois (Hurling)
- 7pm Limerick v Westmeath (Football)
Limerick have no win after 4 games in the league. They were close today but Kildare possibly just deserved the win. They were always ahead and were far stronger at midfield.
Kildare started well, kicked some good points and niall kelly finished well off a good run for a goal, I think they had a 5 pt lead by then. Limerick had to replace johnny mac and Ian Corbett for injuries but Cahill and Flanagan did not weaken the team.
They got to grips with kildares direct kicking style by bringing Danny Neville back as sweeper and held possession on short kickouts & going to the half forwards.
Lee, Cahill & Sheehan ran hard from midfield with possession winning scoreable frees. Ian Ryan licked 4 pts and seanie buckley got a nice one from play. Halftime was 1-4 to 0-6.
Kildare got a pt from the throw-in and added another for a 3pt lead. Limerick kept going though and turned over ball when they slowed the Kildare attacks along with putting Kildare shooters under enough pressure to drop short or wide. Ian Ryan landed a great free from outside the 45 before going off injured. Sean Mcsweeney came in and later hit two fine frees off his left.
Limerick had two goal chances that could have won the game. Cian Sheehan had a great run from the right to the corner of the square but handpassed across rather than shoot where it was intercepted. Later on Killian ryan carried a ball inside and smashed it off the underside of the crossbar with the keeper beaten.
Limerick could not get level, Kildare had two points and pushed the lead out to 4. Limerick got a goal in injury time when Lee & Donovan attacked a ball into the square with Fanning touching into the net.
Could have won it, could well have drawn but Kildare just about deserved a win.
Pitch was in great nick and it is a today compact ground - my first time there.
Ref was fussy.
Browne, OâDea, Ranahan and Ian Ryan had good games.
I reckon they started 3 u21s and brought on 5 more. Rebuilding continues.
Issues are the lack of goals, lack of a 6-3/6-4 midfield and the failure to close out or snatch games. Attitude, spirit, pace and youth appear ok.
Need a win over Westmeath, certainly can do it based on formline. Concerns would be injuries from today and ongoing plus the u21s playing on wed 16th.
After that they have Sligo and Offaly which are also winnable. Form has been ok in the league, could well have 3 wins, relegation would be harsh but they have it in their own hands still.
For fucks sake.
Am I wrong?
