Limerick GAA, Still Getting Knocked Down

Secretly you’re happy for us Harry, you just have to admit it to yourself first!

Who will they bring onto the senior panel next year from the 21s? Looking at last night’s team, starting from the backs up i think they’ll introduce the following:

Sean Finn
Richie English
Diarmuid Byrnes
Pat Ryan
Cian Lynch
Tom Morrissey
Barry Nash

Most importantly John Kiely instead of TJ.

The worst thing we could do now is to repeat the mistakes of the past, where established players were pushed out too quick after underage success.

The main aim for our seniors in 2016 should be to get out of 1b in the league. The talent in my blinkered green and white opinion is that the players are there now for us to have a right cut at Liam within the next 2 years.

The established players we have aren’t cutting it though so no harm to cut a few, that’s life. The fella’s that were cut the last time there was underage success were two time Munster winners, NHL winners, All-Ireland final runners-up twice, All-Stars. The current group we have aren’t comparable to those players who while not winning the big one were top players better than these. The current group have been to the well a few times, they won’t win an All-Ireland, they can’t even get out of 1B let alone win an All-Ireland, but with the right additions given time they should be closer.

We need to be cute about it though pal, it’s where we’ve fell down in the past in being too gun-ho about things, getting rid of managers and players who still have something to offer. The raw materials are there, but we need a competent management team in place to bring us to the holy grail.

As it is I’m tempted to book off the first 2 weeks in September next year but I won’t do it :grinning:

We’re agreeing with each other on the management thing. TJ has been a compelte and abject failure as manager and this team has clearly regressed in the two years under him. To be honest i’m stunned that he hasn’t been politely asked to move aside yet and here we are with him seemingly about to enter a third term of management.

There’s nobody screaming for 15 of these U21s to be shoved in. I listed eight there who i think should and will be brought in, two of them were already involved this year. I suppose i should include Ronan Lynch too to make nine.

Honestly what I think we should do is have 3 or 4 in-house games in October where our current senior panel and the 21’s play each other mix it up and we pick our senior panel from there for 2016.

The much maligned county board need to step up now and make this happen, we also need to get Jerry Wallace, Joe Quaid back involved in limerick Hurling, as both of those men deserve huge credit for yesterday’s result.

I believe the Wallace deal is done.

Is he back involved with the minors?

Seniors?

But remember you are reading this on d’Internet.
I first heard this in a pub from a bitter West Limerick man

Don Flynn part of the management!!

Away to fuck!!!

A bitter West Limerick man is a dangerous animal.

Particularly when alcohol is being consumed.

Seen the provisional league fixtures for 2016 in the Cork Examiner yesterday.

We’ve Wexford at home first. Clare away is the last game. Kerry away, Offaly away and Laois at home.

Footballers have Tipp at home first up.

I don’t know Mike. I think it might be better for Kiely to continue with the 21’s for now. There is another team that can be brought on next year and we might develop another few from it… We lobbed Dave Keane into the job straight after the three in a row and expected miracles. If the Co Board are committed to stay with TJ next year, let him run out his term. Kiely as a selector? Maybe, no idea how they get on.

Tipp left it after them with the wides they hit against us.

Spot on. A right go at the league is what we need.

Is there any other kind?

No BB I wouldnt lob Kiely in as manager but most certainly as part of the team.
We all know what happened in 02 and we all know the pedigree of the hurlers that were left behind.
However the shelf life of a top intercounty hurley has been severly curtailed in recent years. There are a few notable exceptions but that is exactly what they are, exceptions. You could name on on one hand the amount of hurlers over 30 still csommanding regular starting places.
We also know and lets be honest about it, the performance last night and the three previous to that will give renewed optimism. And with that optimism will come the usual cunts who will want a slice of the cake if they feel a breakthrough imminent. Included in that are some of the current senior panel who are not good enough.
Tj is not ruthless enough but is maybe smart enough to get Kiely on board in some kind of roll. That would at leasr ensure a smoother transition

A Galbally man with a Garryspillane man… Henry Martin could make it happen surely!
