Kevin O’Brien may have something to offer in the future. Right now, he is not one of the best 10 forwards available to Limerick and that’s why he’s not on the panel.
Neither are some of the forwards currently on the panel, especially at corner forward ahead of him, is the general point I think.
Pedantic Sunday morning so a couple of points to be made to the two students above:
-
Seamus Hickey must be a fucking magician if he went missing for Noel McGrath’s goal v Tipp seeing as Tipperary’s goals were scored by Patrick Maher and Gearoid Ryan that day.
-
Fitzgibbon Cup isn’t worth a bucket of warm spit when assessing potential inter-county championship players. Low-paced recreational games played on gluepot pitches do not a senior hurler make.
-

Barry O’Connell will not make it at senior level. Too one-dimensional, injury-prone, positionally poor and playing on a godawful club team.
Agree with first two points but not on no.3. I rate Kevin O’Brien highly, i love the way he tears for goal every time he gets the ball. Tall, strong enough and serious pace. To me he is the exact type of forward that would suit us.
He beat the highly-rated Jack Browne of Clare up a stick last year (granted,a player who is vastly over rated imo) and was a good minor too. Always does well for his club. I said it after last years U21s game that he should have been looked at at least. Thats what 21s is for no?
The 10 best forwards in Limerick are imo
- G Mulcahy
- S Dowling
- D Hannon
- S Tobin
- K Downes
- C Lynch
- R Lynch
- D Breen (presence/ball winning/running at defence)
- D Reidy
- K O’Brien
2 of those are not on panel currently, plus the fucking around with R Lynch as a back is not helping, a talent like him should not be any further back than centre field.
A Breen, T O’Brien, B Nash, T Morrissey all follow behind at present.
Hard to say Fotzgibbon, Tom Ryan, Dodge, Gavin Mahoney or James Ryan are forwards as they play a variety of positions for both club & county.
To finish, i would say a lot of Limerick Gaa followers would say that K O’Brien is a better corner forward option than his brother Tommy, A Breen, J Fitzgibbon at least, and is a better Full Forward option than Begley aswell.

Regardless he went following the ball when he should have held his position. Also was at fault for a cork goal too.
-
That is just a ridiculous Fitz is a much higher standard than any club game or minor. Yesterdays final was a extremely high standard.
-
KOB is better than his brother Thomas and Adrian Breen for start. Also more to offer than Niall moran did. Joke by Tj.
I assume your from Ballybrown but why would a players club team being poor effect his chances for Limerick? and injury prone? care to elaborate?
Also Begley and John Fitz aren’t nearly as talented.
Agree. Disagree on hickey, he was close to flawless last year. Condon had some howlers on the other hand.
Hard day v Armagh, had plenty of ball but Armagh had more class up front and all-round physicality. The free count was 29-13 against Armagh.
The orangemen are doing 8 sessions a week at the moment!
Anyone play well for us?
Two Brownes & Heg. Johnny mac was his usual self.
Lack of targets up front is a big problem as so much possession is wasted
we on the other hand would like to beat ye but are not too bothered as long as we win the all ireland.
each to their own i suppose.

Hickey was excellent against Tipperary and was not at fault for either goal. Both came off Condon errors, in fact. I agree that he cost us a goal v Cork when he was cheaply dispossessed and Paudie O’Sullivan sold Condon in a one-one-one.
-
I stand over my remarks re Fitzgibbon Cup. You strike me as being easily impressed. Yesterday’s game was high-scoring and exciting but the standard of hurling was extremely poor for the majority of the game.
-
@Breaking my balls is pretty much on the money in his post listing our forwards. I would disagree on only one, and that is my belief that Tom Morrissey is further down the road than Kevin O’Brien at present. I agree that he is better than his brother and Adrian Breen. He may well have a part to play, as I like the way he hurls, but he’s not as ready as some people think he is. Not a huge fan of TJ Ryan as most Limerick posters know, but he has got this call correct so far.
-
How could you possibly assume that I am from Ballybrown? I am not. As regards elaborating on his being injury-prone, the facts speak for themselves. Over the past four years or so he has been unavailable more often than he has been available. He also hurls with a poor team in the 3rd tier of Limerick competition. That, of course, will AFFECT ( I presume this is the word you meant to use) his chances of hurling with Limerick as he has never demonstrated the ability to consistently hurl at a decent level.

I’d agree with this. A decent, exciting match but it was typical winter hurling. There was plenty of bad wides and most of the late score came from poor basic skills.

Limerick v Wexford not on tv from what I can see on tg4
The Ballybrown weekly club notes deserve to get posted for the following paragraph…
SENIOR HURLING CHALLENGE Our Senior hurlers played the Meath county team in a challenge match on Saturday. Playing with a very strong breeze in the first half Ballybrown had plenty of possession but only led by three points at half time 0-06 to 0-03. The second half saw Meath come more into the game and although our lads held them up for much of the half they eventually caught up and in the last ten minutes pulled away from us to run out winners on a scoreline 1-13 to 0-06. This was arguably Ballybrowns worst performance this year but they were up against a very strong intercounty team in Meath and will have learned from the experiance.

He has missed 3 championship games for Kildimo. Missed one championship game for Limerick since he playing minor 4 years ago.

I would fancy Ballyhale to beat UL or WIT. College teams might be star studded but don’t have the same spirit.
Admins, are we after adopting a new quota of special needs members recently? Has there been an EU Directive or something?
