Limerick v Cork, tits done now

He missed the kicked one too. Went too high on both, the second obviously being a huge chance.

The one Flanagan dropped was a real chance. The first was a terrible pass but had done everything right before that.

Will there be extra trains for next week

You’ve an awful agenda against seamus Flanagan. You said he’d struggle to break even agianst Padraic walsh even though he cleaned him multiple times. Infact I can’t recall too many balls walsh won.

I’d presume so.

Walsh only won balls where Flanagan made a run and the ball was played the wrong side. Anything 50/50 Seamie cleaned him

He was criminally under used in the first half I felt as an outlet.

If management don’t feel Casey’s fitness is at that level, then fair enough, but I could see him playing the role Gillane has been playing if so asked.

It would be harsh on Gillane. But is he better than Casey, i don’t think so. There’s only room for two of Gillane Mul and Casey. Dont think Gillane for Flanagan is an option. Gillane has looked threatening all year but I think Casey turns looking threatening into scores on the board. Casey for Mul would have been the obvious possible change but Mulcahy has made himself undroppable surely.

Fuck it it’s some problem to have, for most of my life we hardly had two forwards to rub together.

we used him a lot in the first 20 minutes he was making runs out to the left and getting on a lot of ball. The pattern of the game changed for 15 minutes in the first half and we started going out the right and Gillane and Hegarty done damage.

The second half had no discernible patterns and was just fucking chaotic

I made a very similar point after the Clare game. The Clare backs knew the ball was going into the corners and were often gone before their men in anticipation of it happening. We are only in development but the next stage has to be putting a bit of thought into the pass, before it’s hit, and forwards turning and running away from the obvious space if it’s being anticipated. As discussed elsewhere we were hitting passes into space at times yesterday even if the only reason the space was there was because the forward was gone the other way.

ya this happened on numerous occassions. Hannon did it 2, possibly 3 times.

You’d swear we won every ball into the full forward line from some comments, we won nearly half of them, that’s brilliant going.

you’ve nailed it here pal.

Flanagan was unlucky for the ball that hit the post and assisted two points. His ability to win ball on the sideline is key and find the runners from deep such as hego, Hayes and lynch is very important too.

I’m not questioning him mate. He was very impressive in almost everything he did on Sunday. I’ve no fears of him. A bit of a ruthless streak needs to be instilled in him and we’ve a cracking player on our hands.

Kilkenny have changed their style this season. They are using more tailored deliveries now but they still haven’t gone away from their basic principle of trusting their players to win their own ball.

In the first half, that style largely worked. Of the 17 balls played into the forwards beyond the ’45 metre line, Kilkenny won 13, and translated that possession into six points.

Yet while Limerick only won ten of the 21 balls played into their forwards beyond the 45, they turned those ten balls into seven points.

After the break, Kilkenny only won six of the 16 balls played inside, for a profit of three points. Limerick meanwhile, won ten of 21 balls, for a dividend of five points. And the space that Limerick were able to create in their attack was decisive to mining those three extra scores in such a tight game.

It’s pretty clear to see P Casey isn’t in prime physical condition in fairness, which is understandable given how long he was out.

Anyone at the game on Sunday surely noticed the insane amount of runs, really good ones too may I add, that Flanagan was making for puck outs and how frustrated he was getting at not being used. He won his battle with PĆ”draig Walsh who had minimal influence on the game in comparison to his usual barn storming play. Indeed Deegan Paul Murphy and Walsh were pretty much completely bollixed by the time Casey came in. The work rate and movement off the ball by our inside line is sick. Concentrating on what each of them scores is fair enough, they’re forwards at the end of the day, but it ignores so much more

We threw the game in Clare

I don’t. If you check back on last year I was praising his displays all through the U25 competition and couldn’t understand him not starting on the U21s. I think a player like Pat Ryan has the potential to be even better and far more composed in front of goal. He has buckets of pace and an eye for a score. However Kiely appears to have a plan that he is sticking to. I just hope it gets us over the line this year.
Flanagan scored one point off Walsh by the way and while his general play was good a full forward has to offer more than one point. He is a great athlete but lacks a bit of composure. The advantage we have is that Cork have been shit at the back for years. Hopefully their recent improvements are a mirage

Yep I think it’s foolish to look at scoring returns for him. He’s probably has the most key job in the forwards space creation wise for sure. Albeit he’ll need to improve on those goals chances for sure. The frustrating thing about Gillane is that he made the same mistake twice. The kick went high and I assume at half time it was drummed into him at to go low next time but he made the same mistake again. Which is a worry.
