Limerickâs defence is very average- John Allen knew it, Teege doesnât seem to think so. Our half forwards and midfield will have to put in a massive shift to stop clean delivery into the Wexford forwards- Something that was lacking against Cork.
I would agree that Downes and Dowling should both be used closer to goals- and leave Mulcahy sweep around - Breen at centre forward winning/breaking ball for Mulcahy would be far more effective than Dodge/Hannon in there.
I only saw bits of Wex v Wat but the time and space given to Wexford was crinamil, as my old boss used to say. There will be no fatigue issue for Wexford either, games is what you want to be playing- they are a plucky bunch and willing to put themselves about physically, I expect them to start like a train on fire.
Also "start like a train"
Trains are generally very slow to start and take a few miles to reach top speed.
Maybe he means it as a positive for limerick? Trains on fire usually end badly, I think thatâs what poor old @Mark Renton was trying to imply in his own simple ham fisted way.
The winning of the game on Sunday lies with Downes and Mulcahy. Get them in possession enough, especially Downes near the goal, and im confident we will win.
However, I would like to see us winning more battles at half forward and half back. Cork getting on top in both those areas last game put us under alarming levels of pressure, weâre going to need changes in personnel or massively raised performances from 4 players in those two lines. Iâll be interested to see how we address this.
Wexford have played a two man inside line in most (all?) games I have seen so far, that suited us well against Tipp with Hickey having a big impact out the field, itâll be interesting to see of that works out for us again.
I think the haircuts will have a lot to do with it. Paudie O Brienâs is just fucking atrocious. Limerick have a serious lack of fellas with free flowing locks. These Wexford lads with the long hair hurl with an abandon not seen since the days of Gerry McInerney.
This short back and sides just isnât good enough by the standards of today. The minors have the right idea with flowing ginger tops, with a bit of panache, that is why they are double Munster Champions and we will be knocked out by Wexford on Sunday.
@Dirty Hands Walter, youâre probably more familiar with the Limerick players than I am with Wexfordâs, what are the key match ups and how do you see these going? Will Wexford play a two man inside line again and how will that work out given that the same tactic employed by Tipp probably worked out to Limerickâs advantage?
Munster Council have issued a statement to say professional security firm and stewards will be in situ in Semple Stadium to deal with some safety report issues which highlighted risk of Dublin and Tipperary fans arriving for the 4.00pm game meeting a bandwagon of Wexford fans leaving with twenty minutes to go after being beaten out the gate. Seems prudent.
