Lionel Andres Messi

Character is the definitive word there Sid

I suppose it’s what makes them great and is why I look back fondly on them as opposed to the monotonous cliche bots that are around now.

  • I can’t imagine Koeman and Guardiola were shrinking violets either.

Some craic being in that dressing room I’d say

Denmark’s team from the 80s was one of my favourite ever, Laudrap was incredible, Preben Elkjaer is one of the most underrated players in history in my opinion

There are different types of arrogance

Cruyff’s was total self-confidence and knowledge that he was genuinely superior to everybody else

Laudrup’s was a sort of sulking, introverted arrogance - similar in some ways to Cruyff but not the sort of character you want around if things aren’t going well for him

Romario’s was a sort of wild arrogance, he often didn’t take football particularly seriously

Stoichkov as I said was quite similar to Maradona in character - arrogant definitely, but equally inspirational and an amazing leader at his best - definitely the beating heart of that Barca team - the sort of player that is loved and idolised rather than liked

Jan Molby, Jesper Olsen. Probably missing an out and out goal scorer.

It’s in the Catalan character to think deeply about things

That’s probably why the Dutch have always been a good match with Barcelona as they also have that in their character

I have seen worse

Are you a friend of zidanes you simpleton

Ferdinand only became great after he retired it seems. Regularly found out in Europe, and wasn’t half the player Vidic was. Scholes another overrated player, possibly the most overrated of all time IMO

And Fernando Torres routinely did Vidic up like a kipper.

Vidic was a great defender.

Torres in his Liverpool days was something else. As far as number 9s are concerned, after R9, Luis Suarez and Romario, Torres was the next best I’ve ever seen. He had it all, pity it didn’t last longer.

Sheva was the best striker I’ve seen after R9, probably Vieri in his pomp after him. Torres was a hell of a player in his peak though.

When was the last time an EPL team beat one of the big 2 from Spain?

Are current Spanish champions Barcelona included in that. They have a goal difference of 52 and lead second placed team by 9 points.
