What did you think of Messis performance yesterday? It was cowardly and the longer the game went on the worse it got. It’s the same in an Argentina shirt in the world cups. When things start to go around them he tends to just sulk. The really great leaders grab hold of their mates and inspire them to new levels. Messi does not do this. He isn’t a great leader.

I’m saying last night was very similar to all three argetinian world cup exits messis being involved in. He doesn’t inspire his team mates when the chips are down.

It’s very similar to his performance v roma last year and similar to his performance v France in the world cup. That’s a 12 month window. I don’t doubt messis incredible skills as a footballer but as a leader of team particularly when their being outplayed he’s absolutely god awful. He seems to have zero connection with his team mates and can’t drag performances out of them like many of the greats can.

He vanished when his team needed him. Last night when Barcelona needed him he put his head down and sulked. An incredible footballer but a shit leader and I’d be of the suspicion the vast majority of the squad manager included are terrified of him and you’ll win nothing if that is the case.

A lot of lads on here can’t seperate incredible footballers and actual on field leaders. Henderson for Liverpool is an awful footballer who if he thought about some of the passes Messi makes he gets an headache but he’s absolutely brilliant leader and drives his teammates to higher standards. It’s very easy to see who hasn’t played sport to a high level here and who’s greatest sporting achievements probably happened on the PlayStation. Messi is an incredible footballer but an awful leader.
First of all that isn’t true. I never edited any bets. Secondly it’s my opinion on Messi. He’s a great player but he isn’t a good leader and that’s what barca needed last night. You shouldn’t get so upset when people have different views to you. That’s what makes this place intersting. If we all agreed it’s very boring.

yeah. If I was playing with him I wouldn’t be inspired by a fella who takes the ball under pressure. Constantly shows for it. Has the ability to do things no one else on the planet can. Has scored goals under the highest pressure.
Takes the ball when he is double and treble marked. Passes the ball to teammates in better positions consistently.
You don’t have to be loud and demonstrative to be a leader. You can lead by actions and others follow.
I never responded to “leaders” be it managers or lads on the field who balled and shouted. I responded to lads who did it. Put the head in. Put the foot in. Or lads who weren’t defensive, who showed for the ball, demanded it and were positive with it.
You actually just compared Henderson to Lionel Messi. You just did that. You absolute ham

Do you think it’s because Messi had a bad night? Possible. But that is the very definition of a leader. If he has a bad night the rest of the team under perform.
You’d often hear it said of all the greats. If he plays well, the team plays well.
They looked to him to get them out of a hole, again. And he couldn’t. There’s only so many times you can go to the well kid.
Incidentally, It’s like Joe Canning and Galway last year, he nearly won them the final on his own and you denigrate him as “not a leader” and you think Galway will do better without him this year.
