Yes it was much better back when Michael Owen, Pavel Nedved and Andriy Shevchenko were winning it. Good players as the latter two especially were, they couldn’t lace Messi’s boots even if he never won a trophy

I don’t know what you’re laughing at. They were superior players in every degree to Messi. Shevchenko was the best striker in Europe for a number of years in a golden generation of defenders. Nedved would shit over any midfielder currently plying his trade.
Shevchenko got just above 1 in 2 in Serie A and under 1 in 2 in the CL as an out and out striker. Nedved was a fine player but couldn’t lace Messi’s boots. Messi is better at literally everything
You’re missing the point. They played in far tougher eras than Mythi. Shevchenko broke the all time scoring record in the CL in his time. Mythi has a fairly average record against Italian clubs, he would struggle in Serie A.
How many of the games that Mythi played against Italian sides has he failed to score from open play in?

Messi is essentially play maker, not a striker — his goal scoring rate is off the charts for the position he plays.
