Mythi winning a load of awards at international tournaments he was appalling at completely devalues any awards he has won. He basically shows that individual awards in football have little merit and are all decided by corporate interests.
Developing a problem?
Was Messi actually the best player in the world in 2021? Did he not score his first league goal of the season in Ligue 1 last week? Hardly the form of a Balon D’Or winner.
It wasn’t a standout year at all as performances go really. Messi had a great half season at Barca and won the Copa America. What happens between August and December has never mattered for these awards.
Lewandowski was shafted last year and had a great season but didn’t play in any big games in 2020/21. He missed the CL quarters when they got knocked out and did as well as he could in a terrible Poland team in the summer. After that you have Jorginho who isn’t in the top 3 players for either Chelsea or Italy
As I said the last few months never matter for these awards. In general in football what happens between August and December is inconsequential at the top level. You see it in the way people overreact to CL group stage games that don’t really matter
The guys that know more than doctors and scientists also know more than coaches, players and journalists of world football… Fascinating.

Chiesa, Verratti, Donnarumma, Bonucci were all better for Italy. There were no standouts this year but Jorginho would have been a farce altogether

Jorginho winning the CL and euros is a terrific achievement. However was he the most influential player on both teams? No. Was he anywhere near the best player of the year? No.
The reality is, is that Messi is held to a higher standard than any other player in history. He came 5th in 2018 when he should have won it. The trophies, numbers and eyes all point to Messi in 2021. He deserved it.
France Football fucked over Lewandowski for 2020 though, big time. That award they gave him tonight was almost disrespectful. I’m glad Messi called for Lewa to get his reward in his speech.
