Margaret was on recently to talk of her husband of 16 years who had come out as gay. Today the husband John was on to give his side of the story. Although RTÉ were distorting his voice John was clearly a Waterford City man. John would go out to discos with the lads pretending to look for girls but would be eyeing up the self same lads himself. He lived a lie. He cried when he heard Freedom by George Michael because he wanted to be free.
He got married in his 30s and had a daughter. When he came out the wife hugged him and said she always suspected it.
Not an uncommon story there are 2 couples in our circle of friends where u are waiting to hear similar news. Each to their own but sad when kids are involved
We/they have been programmed to think that it’s wrong, society is still very homophobic, fellas want a ‘normal’ life, kids and a family life, they probably think that it can be suppressed, I’d have a lot of sympathy for a fella in that situation,
The kids will understand in time
Maybe you’re right, buddy in Derry, same situation, his kids(8) don’t understand at all,yes I have some sympathy for him, brought up in a childrens home abused etc,but he’s the exception I’d say rather than the norm
