Liverpool 2008/09

Didn’t see this game either but by all accounts Liverpool were shite.

Rafa’s rant had nothing to do with it but I see most of the papers today saying that Sir Alex dig worked a treat.

No it didn’t. Liverpool were just shite.

I agree completely with cuntJuhniallio on leaving out Keane and Torres. That is the kind of quirk in Benitez that could well cost us.

We’ll see what the story is by next Monday for the Merseyside derby. I got a text from Tinnion after the Stoke game saying that the title was over. Rubbish. The Pool are still there.

stoke brought liverpool down to Stokes level & it became a battle- the ball was in the air a lot- kudos to stoke for doing that but LFC lacked a bit of creativity

the brittania or whatever it is called seems the best stadium for atmosphere in the premiership

hardly a rant

Yeah, I meant to text you to say that it’d be interesting to see Gerrard filling in alongside Mascherano in Alonso’s absence and Keane playing in his favoured position behind Torres. Just assumed that’d be what would happen and was aghast to see the teamsheet.

Got the same text from Tinnion. He’s just a bitter Arsenal fan - understandable.

stupid cunt! the little fat spaniard needs to learn that you don’t win the title by obsessing about other teams. He may understand that this morning when he realises they may not even be top when they go into the derby.
iv no doubt he got a bit jizzie and his head went light when he realised it was Jan and they were top of the table with a handy game to stoke while the other top 3 teams were to play each other the same weekend.
This was premeditated, it was written down, the timing was of his choosing, and all he has done is made himself look like a flute and put added pressure on his team.
It would be more in his line to put his best team on the field at all times and concentrate on winning points, not getting a verbal over another manager.
fergie must be privately pissing himself at this, another victim another clown to toy with.

Let us get one thing straight.

The reason Liverpool drew with Stoke was not due to Benitezs verbals. I cant accept that the team (professional footballers) went out on the pitch saying to themselves Oh the boss gave out about Ferguson yesterday. He must be feeling the pressure. Actually so are we. On no I cant pass the ball.

I didnt see the game but by all account Liverpool were shite. It can happen. But they have still only lost one match this season and are in a very good position.

So I wish everyone would get a bloody grip. But no doubt the media will run with this and how Ferguson is a wiley old fox but let them. It means jack shit.

We will see what the story is this day week and hopefully we will get a result against Everton. If Utd win their two games in hand then they are level with us. We are still well in there with a shout.

Same as you can’t definitively state that the poor result was due to his outburst, I don’t think you can say with certainty that it had nothing to do with it either. It was pretty funny and fairly accurate but he could have said it today, for example, rather than heating things up on the eve of a game

Questions for Pool fans.

  1. Why does Gerrard take all the corners and free kicks. Imo he isnt great at them and hits the ball far too high. Is there anyone else who can take a corner

  2. What does Benitez see in Lucas. He really is useless.

  3. Have Liverpool any intention of signing anyone this month

  4. Which of you stated that you would have Benayoun in your first X1. He is rank

I accept that. He has created this thing now which is not helpful.

the only thing for certain is that for liverpool nothing positive came from it, rafas team responded the next day by turning in a shit performance against a bottom team while fergies team responded by beating the shit out of chelsea.
maybe the ‘rant’ had fuck all to do with what happened on the field of play this weekend but if he did it as a form of mind games or whatever then it backfired badly.
i doubt rafas players would thank him regardless this morning.

btw if utd win the two games they will be ahead of liverpool

I accept that but I would point more to the fact that Benitez left out Torres and Keane as a bigger error.

  5. Auerlio used to take some. Gerrard is a pretty decent taker I think.

  6. Lucas is indeed shite. He had a couple of decent games over Christmas but having seen him play last year in the CL in the flesh I thought he looked hopelessly out of his depth.

  7. Apparently not. A deal agreed with Heskey for the summer on a free apparently.

  8. I wouldn’t have Benayoun in there. But he is not rank. He is ordinary enough.

Kuyt to Heskey to Beanyoun to Lucas.

There’s words you never want to hear a commentator say surely?

Well if I was a United fan yesterday I wouldn’t want to hear Park to Giggs to Fletcher but looked what happened there.

Heskey on a free - no harm in that I would say.

I’d have Park and Fletcher a long way ahead of Yossi and Lucas.

  5. Alonso takes some of the corners also. Gerrard is very hit and miss with the corners I think. Liverpool were never going to score by lumping corners into the box against stoke anyway

  6. I thought Lucas played quite well over the christmas too but he was dour on Sunday. Offers very little going forward

  7. I doubt it

  8. Benayoun is no worse than Park or Malouda. He can be very frustrating but it is very often involved in so much of the things Liverpool do right. He reminds me a bit of Garcia.

rafa would you ever shut the fuck up you ape and manage your players.
do any liverpool supporters believe any of this shit helps their cause, whats it got to do with winning the title?

Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez has made a fresh attack on Manchester United with a swipe at the clubs chief executive David Gill.

Benitez made headlines last week with a series of outspoken remarks about his Old Trafford counterpart Sir Alex Ferguson.

He has followed that up with further comments about Gill, who also holds a senior position at the Football Association.

Benitez said: They were saying we are a threat. Now they know we are, they are playing mind games.

But I dont think its a mind game when you have control over everything; its a mind game when you have the same level as the other people, then you can show you are cleverer than the others.

But when you have control of everything and your chief executive is powerful in the FA and things like this, then that is not mind games.

Is there a conflict of interest with David Gill at the FA?

That is another fact. It is a fact that one person has a lot of power and control, and is on a lot of committees in the FA. To me that is very strange.

Neither the Football Association nor United have commented.

Just read that article, Is it possible the fat spanish waiter is actually going insane?

Ooh, twice in 2 threads that I strongly disagree with you Fran. Benayoun is nothing like Garcia other than in stature. Benayoun nearly always picks the right option and rarely gives the ball away needlessly. On top of this he possesses the skill to be a match-winner on his day imo. He picked up 6 points for Liverpool last season as far as I recall with pieces of individual magic. I like him.

Seems unlikely to me given that most of what he said is true. He’s very calculated Benitez and he’s obviously decided that he wants to get evryone riled up a bit. Doesn’t bother me and as Farmer has already said it shouldn’t have a negative effect on the pitch. Apparently he ran it by senior players before going ahead with it too.
