Liverpool 2011/12

Liverpool have appointed Kevin Keen as first team coach. He would be familiar with Steve Clarke from West Ham, I imagine. Hardly has a brilliant CV.

From the Mirror, who despite their tabloid nature have an uncanny ability to get things right when it comes to Liverpool.

Liverpool will not rest after the capture of Charlie Adam.

Manager Kenny Dalglish wants at least THREE more signings before the summer window closes.

Next on the agenda is a winger, with Stewart Downing still top of his list.

The Reds have now bid £15million for Aston Villa’s England international, and will baulk at offering much more for a man rated at £20m by his club.

Liverpool’s owners, Fenway Sports Group, have set a clear policy of targeting young players who can increase in value, and also remain saleable, even if they don’t succeed with the Merseyside club.

Downing, at 26, is at the limit of their age range, which will make them wary about matching Villa’s valuation for a player whose price will only decrease as he enters his late 20s.

Dalglish also wants a left-back and a centre-half and, again, Liverpool have been cautious in their dealings as they look to squeeze as much value from their purchases as possible.

The club have been involved in talks with Newcastle over their Spanish full-back Jose Enrique, but so far the £15m asking price for a player who has only one year remaining on his contract has been a stumbling block.

The Reds know they will need a strong defender at left-back following the purchase of Adam, who will play on the left side of midfield but will not be asked to perform too many defensive duties.

It means they will renew their push for Enrique, because they have limited options on the left side of their defence, where England right-back Glen Johnson has often had to fill in.

Discussions have also been quietly proceeding with Birmingham over their highly-rated centre-half Scott Dann, who was born on Merseyside and is a Liverpool fan.

Liverpool may also pursue an interest in Monaco midfielder Park Chu-Young, who carries a massive fan base in the Far East, where Reds main shirt-sponsors Standard Chartered have their business base.

Liverpool have also been in the market for a back-up keeper to number one Pepe Reina, and Roma veteran Alexander Doni is likely to arrive by the weekend on a free transfer.

HOW LIVERPOOL COULD LOOK (4-3-3):

Reina; Johnson, Carragher, Dann, Enrique; Gerrard, Henderson, Adam; Suarez, Carroll, Downing.

Any news on Meireles leaving? Doesn’t seem to be a place for him in that midfield. Odd since he had a great spell under Dalglish last season.

This sentence:

“Liverpool have been cautious in their dealings as they look to squeeze as much value from their purchases as possible.”

doesn’t seem to be in any way true.

They may turn out to have spent wisely but it’s hardly accurate to say they’ve been prudent or patient in their transfer dealings.

“Dalglish also wants a left-back and a centre-half and, again, Liverpool have been cautious in their dealings as they look to squeeze as much value from their purchases as possible.”

Carroll - bought GBP£35m.
Henderson - bought GBP£20m.
Downing - failed bid GBP£15m.

Is this mentalist journalist for real?

I love you Bandage but it’s eerie when we post the smae thing.

Indeed. The real concern will be if my radiator starts to bleed.

I think Liverpool supporters are in for a rude awakening this season.

Edit: You really need to tidy up your spelling. It’s been horrific of late. I’ve been forced to correct the mistake when quoting your post as it was annoying me.

I don’t think Liverpool supporters are that optimistic to be honest. At least I’m not.

I think Dann is going to Stoke?

No chance of that happening I’d say. Arsenal and Chelsea meant to be sniffing around him as well.

Is there not a belief within the support that King Kenny is going to bring back the glory years?

As I was saying in the transfer thread. Christian Zapata will sign for Villareal after the Copa America for €7m. Liverpool will end up buying Dann or some other no mark English centre back for a fee of £15m or more.

Dann is 24, so is Zapata.
Dann is uncapped an international level, Zapata has 12 caps.
Dann has 50 top flight appearances to his name, Zapata has 152.
Dann was part of a team that got relegated from the top flight last season, Zapata was part of a team that gained CL qualification.

Yet Liverpool pursue the overpriced and unproven player.

Within the retards maybe, but any intelligent supporter would see that those signings are nothing to write home about and that there is a big gap between Liverpool and the like of Man Utd and Chelsea, particularly given that they are strengthening even more.

I heard that they pursued Zapata and he chose Villareal.

He is very underpriced at €7million I’d say. What’s his contract situation?

I’m pretty sure Liverpool could offer more than what a small club like Villareal could in wages mate. Not quite sure what Zapata’s contract situation is, I think there is talk of Udinese getting a player along with that as well.

But it’s still a bargain buy.

Villareal are playing in the Champions League next year mate.

So are Udinese mate. It’s a sad day when Liverpool can’t compete with Villreal for players.

Please leave this thread to us huns and revert to posting pointless threads about dead terrorists

Like Smalling or Jones ???

We’ll be alright next season - trust me.

We are Liverpool and don’t you forget it

What’s your point?

Zapata is leaving one CL club for another CL club.

Liverpool aren’t in the CL so they are at a disadvantage.

Only the most blinded Liverpool fans would say that players should want to join Liverpool no matter what, even if that means foregoing playing in the CL.
