I had to look that one upâŚ
I was listening to the below podcast today. They talk about how the concept of the football song/chant began at Anfield. You had to be on the Kop from half one to get a place back in the early 60s. Before each match the top 10 in the Hit Parade would be played over the loudspeakers. Thatâs where âYouâll Never Walk Aloneâ as a football song comes from. âAnyone Who Had A Heartâ would prove to have less longevity as a terrace chant.
Personally I think 1965âs âWe won the Cup, we won the Cup, ee-aye-addio, we won the Cupâ is comfortably top 10 in the all time great football chants.
