Liverpool FC and the Orange Order

I stumbled across this interesting piece from http://www.answers.com/topic/liverpool-f-c on the history of Liverpool football club. Just wondering Bandage you said in a thread in a while back that the club have an Orange Lodge at Anfield. Is that still the case? If so how any club can have connections to such a despicable organisation is beyond me. In fairness it appears as though there are little or no signs of sectarianism at the club at present.
Liverpool Football Club are an English football club based in Liverpool. They play at Anfield but are currently awaiting finance for a new stadium approximately 200 metres away in neighbouring Stanley Park. They play in the FA tPremier League and in terms of trophies won are the most successful club in the history of English football.[1] Liverpool have won eighteen First Division titles, seven FA Cups, seven League Cups, five European Cups[2] and three UEFA Cups. Liverpool are also a member of the G-14 group of leading European football clubs.[3]

Contrary to some popular opinion, Liverpool F.C. has strong roots in Protestantism rather than Catholicism. Several of the clubs early directors were connected to the Orange Order, including founder John Houlding and John McKenna. Liverpool F.C. also had strong connections to the Working Menā€™s Conservative Association (WMCA), the political expression of the Liverpool Protestant Association. [7]

These are the same people that threw bananas at John Barnes when he signed for them.

Thatā€™s very unsettling.

Seems to be a deep hatred of the Irish in Liverpool.
