Rafa was in Asia for preseason with Liverpool when one of his parents died. He stayed in Asia. Fell out with Alonso when Alonso wanted to be present for the birth of his first child and missed a Champions Leage group match. Just shows the kind of ruthlessness/obsession it takes.
