A lot of these younger keepers are fine when playing with a team that keep the ball.
Because they are good with the ball at their feet and they are good in teams that hold possession and look to play out from the ball and through a team pressing on them. They don’t have to do much of the work traditionally associated with a keeper like ensuring a defence keeps its shape, coming for crosses, shot stopping or controlling their box.
Luke Steele for Brighton is now in his 30s and knocked about all manner of clubs. Only recently he was given a run as first choice because he is good with the ball on the deck.

In GAA shot stopping is now well down the on the list of requirements to make a good keeper.
